Urine Problems

Ever since my surgery in 06/2106 I have been having cloudy urine. I cannot get it to go away. I saw my GP yesterday and made her do a urine test. My test came back with keytones (spelling) in it. Does anyone else have this problem?

In normal states these ketones will be completely metabolised so that very few, if any at all, will appear in the urine. If for any reason the body cannot get enough glucose for energy it will switch to using body fats, resulting in an increase in ketone production making them detectable in the blood and urine.

Keytones are a byproduct of burning fat, I test my urine everyday to make sure I have Keytones in my urine...helps me cope with the stalls when the scale isn't dropping. If you are diabetic keytones can be a concern but totally normal if you are trying to lose weight.

if you're intentionally low-carbing, then you WANT ketones in your urine. That indicates your body is burning fat. If you don't want the ketones, then eat more carbs. But a lot of dieters WANT to be in ketosis (i.e., ketones in their urine)

No I eat carbs all the time but in moderation.

Then the good news is you are still burning fat even with carbs in moderation. I'm a little surprised that your gp gave you the impression that this is a "problem". Are they not aware of your surgery?

. It also doesn't account for your cloudy urine because I have lots of keytones but no cloudiness. It is dark yellow because I'm not quite at 2 litres of Water yet though. For me cloudiness has always been a warning sign of a potential uti. But if they tested and no bacteria you are probably fine.

Most of us 90%+ are on a ketogenic diet post surgery to help you burn more fat and lose weight.

Don't fix it, just stay with the program requirements. The weight loss phase is relatively short and you will soon enter the maintenance phase. So you want to capture as much weight loss as possible during the initial phase. Once you reach maintenance, this generation of ketones should ease up.
