8 days out can I eat eggs and turkey sausage?

Recommended Posts

I can't have any ground meats until like week 8, and trust me.. I'm dying to throw some ground turkey into some of the stuff I'm making.

I could have eggs starting week 3, so technically 2 weeks after my surgery date. I tried to get them to push me up to purees after only a week b/c I was also feeling fine and tolerating everything. My NUT explained to me that it's not about what you're tolerating. They set up the diet so your stomach can heal inside. I grudgingly did the week of full liquids, lol. I have followed their instructions to a T and have not had any issues or vomiting. I know it sucks but if you can't get a hold of your surgeon I would stick to liquids until you can. As far as sausage, I wouldn't go anywhere near it for a while.

I'm also shocked you didn't get a post op plan.

very well said !!! Some people just don't realize you are given a plan for a reason they think bc they can tolerate well let's try it bodybjustbwent through a lot and as a nurse I'm just amazed that people don't sit back and think about everything they're stomach has just gone through. And honestly if my doctors or NUT did not go over the post op plans I would NOT have had my surgery through them my doctors office explained everything a few times and also told me no matter what questions I have to not hesitate in calling them!!! I would not have gone through with a plan that I was so unsure of the stages afterwards let alone wasn't given instructional information on. Did you have any type of nutrition classes? Or booklets given to you I was given packets several of them two books and a folder of papers all which explains step by step and not only was I given them but we went over them one on one page by page for 6 months!!! I'm just baffled by this. I would definitely not touch anything but liquids tho till you get in contact with someone and maybe look for a different surgeon for after care that can explain more if they didn't go over any of that info

Sausage? Did your surgeon explain the risks of extending your stomach one week after major abdominal surgery?

If he/ she is out of town call his off to speak ever is covering from him. If he has no coverage he should be reported to the state medical board.

DEFINATELY!!!! He has to either be on call or provide back up!!! I did extensive research on my surgeon before going to them. Something doesn't add up !!!

This is a good point that I didn't even think of. I wonder if OP had a pre op nutrition class. That's also where I got my paperwork on post op plan.

Turkey will go down rough believe me. I am craving meat so badly but it just sits there at the opening of your sleeve unless your going to grind it up in the blender. I have chewed and chewed and still about choke. It tends to clump together in your stomach.

Hey everyone! I was sleeved exactly 8 days ago. I feel pretty amazing and really well healed. I've been listening to my body and obeying the rules. I was wondering if it's okay to eat some very well chewed eggs and turkey sausage today? I feel almost 100% other than fatigue from a lack of nutrients. Should I listen to my body and introduce and eat foods as I feel fit or just stick to another week of full liquids? Thanks!

You are asking BP participants for a prescription. What does that suggest to you? How do you know how "well healed you are?" Feeling well is not necessarily the same as being healed.

@@amiskinnyyet,

Congratulations on your recent surgery!

Good question. I am glad you are healing well and feeling good (although tired). It is also good that you are focused on listening to your body, which is a skill that takes a long time to develop but will serve you well! I would caution you that most weight loss surgery patients are still not yet fully in tune with their bodies at this point post-op. It takes a lot of practice, so I would suggest partly listening to your body, and mostly listening to your meal plan.

I would suggest following the meal plan and instructions that your surgeon gave you for your post-op diet. Eating eggs and turkey sausage at this point sounds a little premature for most pre-op diets, but your surgeon or nutritionist is really the one to ask.

If your body is feeling fatigued from lack of nutrients and eggs and turkey sausage are not yet allowed, you might consider upping your intake of Protein shakes to get the calories and Protein you would otherwise get from adding in eggs and sausage.

When you do get to real pureed foods after having only liquids, your surgeon or nutritionist might suggest starting with something like yogurt, which is easier than eggs and sausage.

Good luck!

I also have not experienced any vomiting yet. Is that normal?

I will be a week post-op tomorrow. I have not vomited, they don't want you to vomit.

I'd stick to the full liquids, but choose ones that will provide more calories and nutrients so you'll feel more energetic and satisfied. You can obtain the same calories and Protein from eggs and sausage with other options that are gentler on your healing stomach. On my second week post-surgery my diet primarily consisted of nutritious and tasty smoothies / shakes. The blog site The World According to Eggface has several recipes that were helpful and even fun to experiment with; I didn't feel I was on a monotonous routine of the same Protein shake every day. One of my favorites was the simplest "recipe" though - a chocolate Protein powder with Fair Life milk and freshly ground Peanut Butter. I also made a lot of smoothies using high Protein, low carb plain Greek yogurt and low GI frozen fruit such as berries. I added flavorless protein powders to Soups to enrich them, and also made low-carb egg custard using SF flavored Syrup. I didn't start having any foods that required a fork or knife until the one-month mark. I actually then went back to liquids and spoonable foods because my stomach wasn't ready yet.

I hope you continue to heal nicely and to feel amazing!

eggs were the first thing I tried once I moved onto soft foods. My body felt fine, they went down fine then half an hour later I dumped.

If you haven't dumped yet, and by the sounds of it you haven't, it's comparable to symptoms of food poisoning. And it's horrible.

My point is, you can listen to your body, & your body might feel fine but your tummy will tell a different story.

I know you don't have a plan, but be patient. Don't force your stages.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
