Premier Protein shakes

Recommended Posts

I tested out a number of Protein shakes (powders) pre-surgery and stocked up on them. Post-surgery, I couldn't stand them. They gave me Premier Protein in the hospital, and that's been the only thing I've been able to tolerate since. I'm getting sick of chocolate, so I ordered a variety pack from Amazon with chocolate, vanilla, banana, strawberry, and caramel. I have only seen chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry in my local stores. The others are available through Amazon though. I'm finding the vanilla and caramel too sickly sweet, am going to try them as Creamers in coffee. :) I don't care for artificial strawberry anything, and haven't tried the banana yet.

Thanks! My Walmart had vanilla, chocolate, strawberries and cream and caramel. I bough vanilla. I had chocolate unjury and it was too sweet so I grabbed the vanilla PP.

I get vanilla, chocolate and strawberry at costco. I have found a four pack of banana at walmart! I love them (except strawberry, wayyy to sweet for me). I also use the instant Decaf coffee in the vanilla.

I haven't had my surgery yet. I'm getting my date on Wednesday he said. But I need to find a shake I like for my pre op 1 week liquid diet. They want me to have 4 a day. And whatever other liquids. How was the surgery? How do you feel?

I think The Premier shakes are gross. I can see why so many people complain about first and second stage liquid diet if this is all they have to eat.

I got samples of different brands and chose the one I liked best (Unjury) but most people on my pre op classes just go to costco and get Premier and then complain about it. Seems to me that ENJOYING what you eat/drink would help you succeed.

Maybe it's a weird sort of self esteem issue?

My mom had gastric bypass oct 2013 and she said the only thing she liked was unjury too. I had chocolate and it seems too sweet for me, especially everyday. So, I have a sample of vanilla I'm going to try today. And I bough PP just to see if I like it. Most Protein shakes I've had (from my BF, he drinks them for body building etc) and I think they have a nasty after taste. I hope I find something! Lol

My surgeon did not have any coffee restrictions. I have been drinking regular and Decaf since surgery. No problems. I'm now 12 weeks out

I ONLY drink premier Protein shakes, I get chocolate 12 pack case at bj's wholesale club for 18.00, this month they have a 5.00 off coupon and our local paper had a 5.00 off coupon (use can use 1 of their coupons and 1 manufacturer or 2 manufacture coupons) so i got 3 cases for 24.00. As someone else said keep them super cold, theres no after taste that's harsh at all! they truly go down like chocolate milk! They are great my hubs likes the strawberry creme and vanilla! You can even buy them on their web site and have them shipped. I have also tossed a Decaf instant coffee pack into one i added ice in a blender too to make a mocha frappe it was the BOMB! Also with the vanilla I have lots of friends who use the Torani sugar free syrups to flavor them in hundreds of ways!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
