I had surgery on June 13 (4.5 months out) and my weight loss has been so slow. I do a cardio kickboxing class three times a week and some days I walk. I get around 800 - 900 calories per day and about 80 - 90g Protein and 40 -45 carbs. What is a typical day of food for you? Do you have any suggestions? Please be respectful to everyone in the discussion.

You may need to up your calories a little bit. Check with your NUT. Mine had me up mine to 1400 because I was running so much.

When I upped my calories I gained weight, but I'll try it again. Thanks!

My suggestion would be to increase calories with more Protein, good fats and carbs and see what happens. Although, I don't think your loss is very slow for your starting weight.

Really? My doctor was like I should have lost 50lbs at my 3 month checkup. I felt so defeated. Thanks for the advice.

What do you consider good fats and carbs?

Avocado, nuts, olives, Peanut Butter (fats). Veggies and fruits, quinoa (carbs).

50lbs at 3 months is alot considering your lower BMI. I'd be thrilled with 50 lbs at 3 months and I started higher than you.

Thanks!

I had surgery two days after you, SW 229 - CW 182, almost identical stats. I don't feel like it's been slow, I'm thrilled with the loss.

Thanks! I guess I needed perspective. I really don't talk to many people about this.

Sounds to me like you're doing just fine if you average out the monthly losses. Here's a chart to put it into perspective:

@@Babbs thanks for posting this! This helps a lot. I'm also planning some menus where I am upping my calories like the previous posts suggested. I'm going grocery shopping a little later.

Thank you for asking this question, I just came on to ask it myself. I have been stuck at 250 for quite a few weeks, I also am doing strength training as well as some treadmill and walking. I am probably developing muscles which will add to the weight ratio, so maybe that is why the no weight loss in both of us. It does feel so good to move and that does compensate the frustration of not losing how I would like.

If you're only consuming 800 or 900 calories a day, and you're doing intense exercise daily for around 45 minutes, your total ACTUAL calorie intake is probably more like 400 or 500 calories (because you're burning the rest off). So you're starving your body and it is responding metabolically.

What I would suggest is not just to up your calories a bit to like 1,200/day but start doing carbs (no protein) about an hour before your workout and save the Protein for after the workout. This will enable you to burn the carbs you just ate through exercise (it looks for that as a fuel source first), and use the Protein for recovery after the workout.

Also remember...the lighter you get, the less calories your body requires to function and therefore, the slower your weight loss will be. It's a curve.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
