i need help. I am on the soft food phase of the post op diet. I can no longer do Protein shakes as they all taste like cotton candy and make me sick. At this point im on oatmeal and Soup puree. I also have a texture problem so i cant even do yogurt, pudding or Jello. I dunno what else to do. Im trying to get foods i can eat but im clueless.

Can anyone provide suggestions? I will be getting baby food and trying mash potatoes tomorrow but im clueless.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Can you do Beans? I started making hummus. Trying things like poached eggs. Cottage cheese with blended and strained berries. Soups worked for me and then worked my way up to things like chili. Still loving hummus as a snack

Yeah Protein shakes do get tiresome no doubt. Today I able to eat my first scrambled egg and it was so yummy. I ate very slow of course and lightly seasoned. However, about the Protein Shakes, one I've never got tired of is a powered plant based one from costco called Organic Orgain....because regardless you'll still need to get your Protein in....and like the above person mentioned, try Beans, lentils, hummus, Tomato basil Soup is great & add some milk (Fairfield has the most protein) for extra protein. My doctor wants me to steer away from potatoes at all cost.

The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight.

Weight loss is achieved after surgery through meal volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your Protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as protein shakes.
You don't have to like Protein Shakes, just tolerate them. The key is experimentation. There are so many formulations out there, that there should be one you can tolerate. As a last resort you might try fortified milk. 32 ounces of 1% milk plus 1 cup of dry milk provides 56 grams of protein.
As your meal volume increases, if you concentrate on consuming high protein meals, you can begin to reduce your reliance on Protein shake. But you are not there yet.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
