Feeling of food stuck in my throat

Recommended Posts

I tried to eat some dinner the other night. It was salmon and avocado. By the time I took the 4th bite, the food got stuck in my throat and I could hardly breath. I couldn't drink because I try to follow the 30 minute rule. I then had to throw up to relieve the discomfort. I tried eating a second time; a different meal and the same thing happened. This usually is the only indicator that I get that I am full, but I don't want that feeling because it is very scary and uncomfortable. Is this happening to anyone else? Could this mean I have a stricture? 1 month post op btw.

To me it sounds like you need to stay at mushies for a bit longer. I was at purees for almost three months. At 3.5 years, I am still better at softs than solids.

I think so too, but what are some things to eat other than Soup broth and mash potatoes? Can you offer me some options? I have been getting bored with limited choices

If all else fails it of course wouldn't hurt to check with your doctor

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
