TheMrsAsh18 24 Posted November 3, 2016 Hi Everyone! I have a question about insurance. My Insurance covers weight loss surgery. I just had twins in June and I've hit all my out of pockets, so I figured this would be the best time to have surgery. My insurance requires 3 diet consults with a dietician. Well I didn't lose any weight during this time. I met wth the psychologist for the evaluation and she said that I would be a great candidate. So I'm worried I won't be able to have surgery bc I didn't lose the weight.... anyone else's gone through anything similar? sc101071 398 Posted November 3, 2016 Shouldn't be a problem if you didn't gain. I have Cigna.
Maddylee40 5 Posted November 3, 2016 I have Cigna and had to have 3 visits with the NUT. I had to show a change in my lifestyle like more Protein, less carbs, and added exercise for example. The change in habits led to the weight loss for me. I could not have a net gain, but the NUT said basically insurance wants to see the adoption of healthy habits. Each visit we went over in detail what I was eating and drinking. I was approved for band to bypass revision. Cigna took about a week to approve once everything was submitted. I was never given an amount to lose... just guidelines to adopt the new habits I would need post op. Best of luck! Hope all works out! theantichick 2,204 Posted November 14, 2016 I have Cigna, didn't lose anything during the 3 months. Didn't gain, but didn't lose. No issues getting it approved, went through on the first try. 2 jenique and ratchiso reacted to this
Coop&SadiesNana 0 Posted May 3, 2017 Correct me if I am wrong but Cigna insurance only requires 3 months worth of weigh ins and such so I could possibly have my surgery scheduled 3 months from now? I had my first weigh in appointment yesterday with my medical doctor. Thanks so much!

I had my first weigh in appointment yesterday with my medical doctor. Thanks so much! I have Cigna and my doctors office just submitted to my insurance. As long as you're past 89 days and have 3 consecutive months with nutrition you could be having surgery within 3 months. I was told it's closer to 4 after the insurance approves it.
