Why my sleeve means so much to me

Recommended Posts

I got sleeved on 2-22-16. Like most of u i had major health issues. I was fortunate enough to have a family who supported my decision to sell our home and downsize. My husband never complained and allowed me to spend as much needed to get mamma healthy. I sold my house moved my kids out of the best school district into the worst in San Antonio. I follow my diet to a T. I refuse to be a bad statistic. I dedicate my progression to my family and my children.

I think you're on the right track!

I can't say it never happens (how would I know?) but I have yet to read about people who follow their surgeon's plan to the letter and don't have success with this procedure.

In my own past experience, I lost a great deal of weight and became over confident that I was "fixed" and could eat the things my naturally thin friends were eating. Foods crept back into, and it became harder and harder to stick with the diet that had allowed me to drop the weight in the first place. Foods crept back in, and weight crept back on and before long, I was back to square 1.

I keep reminding myself that I will never be metabolically "normal", no matter how much weight I lose. I will always have to avoid starches and sweets to keep my weight down, sleeve or no sleeve. The difference (I'm hoping) is that the restriction in my sleeve will keep any transgressions to a minimum and 1 meal will not sabotage a week of religious adherence to my diet.

Best of luck to you!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
