I'm 8 mo out down 104 lbs. I don't exercise as much as i should. I have never gone to gym. I choose to go to park and walk + it keeps my vit d elevated. Stay away from bad carbs. I eat Protein and 2 tbsp of good carb veggie. Much luck!!!

If you don't exercise, you will still lose weight but look flabbier. Building muscle helps fill in the loose skin look when the fat is gone.

I literally followed my Surgeons and Nutritionist plan to the letter. I lost 100lbs in 9 months and then it took another 9 months to lose the last 52.

That last 9 months things slowed down but I took total advantage of the honeymoon period. Once you lose all your weight it gets much much harder.

I went from a size 26 to a size 14 in the first 6 months, then I dropped to a 12 and then suddenly I dropped to an 8. I have been trying like hell to stay there all this time.

I think the only trick is to follow your doctor's plan. My doctors plan includes food choices and walking a minimum of 10,000 steps a day. If you do yo will drop as much as your body will allow at the pace your body will allow. That is unique to each individual and genetics plays a huge part.

I think as you lose weight you end up having a natural tendency and desire to be more active. At least that was the case for me.

I followed my doctor's plan to the letter as far as eating and nutrition was concerned. I did go to the gym at first, but I just didn't like the gym. What I found that I loved was dancing. I started going swing and latin dancing a couple times a week, also tried Zumba, did some dance classes - just loved all of it. I eventually ended up choreographing all my own shows (I'm a musician) and that kept me in the best shape of my entire life!

I've kept my weight off for almost nine years and I credit dancing!

As everyone said, follow your doctors plan and you WILL BE SUCCESSFUL.

One thing to point out is that it takes a lot longer to drop the first couple of sizes then the last few. The first few months I would drop sizes every 30-40 lbs. At lower sizes I am dropping sizes after like 15 pounds. As I got into lower sizes, I would literally skip sizes.

Since May, I've gone from a size 22 to a size 12. I follow my eating plan pretty rigidly, and I do Tae Kwon Do four times a week. It's a great combination of flexibility, strength, and balance. Plus, I get to hit things.

I think my weight loss has been a little slower than "normal" whatever that is because I have been on insulin for most of the post op period - until last week (and for the 30 years prior to surgery).

Also I can't really exercise much because I am waiting for both knees to be replaced, which puts a limit on walking and using gym equipment. I do swim when I can get to the pool though.

Still I have gone down 3 dress sizes in just under 4 months so I am not complaining.

As for eating, I find that my stomach restricts the type of food I can eat as well as the volume all by itself, so I haven't even thought much about sticking to an eating plan. Mainly I eat fresh fruit and vegies, dairy (limited because of lactose intolerance) chicken and fish. I occasionally crave the "bad" foods (candy/chocolate/takeaway/bread etc) but I have had horrible reactions whenever I have just tried one bite, so I just don't bother any more. To be honest I don't really miss it either.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
