ohyoufunny 11 Posted November 3, 2016 It gets a little better every 8 hours. I didn't have a great time at the hospital, and even the week following surgery. Keep in mind your taking your body, which is mostly healthy, and abruptly creating a problem to heal. Your body will be confused. Just take it 8 hours at a time. leebick 448 Posted November 4, 2016 (edited) Ask for an antiemetic to fight the nausea! If they won't prescribe anything (and they should- I can't imagine they'd want you vomiting at this point!), once you are home get some motion sickness medication. My surgeon prescribed 25mg chewable meclizine for me to take at home if I felt nauseous (and I know you can purchase this OTC at Walmart, Target, etc). It worked wonders (and it's chewable)! show1980 38 Posted November 4, 2016 I did get nausea meds but my surgeon says since I had scar tissue from my band before, my esophagus is swollen like my stomach so yeah, I'm miserable. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

laura1116 112 Posted November 4, 2016 Get off the pain pump and onto liquid pain med ASAP. I didn't realize how sick it was making me. I felt so sick the first 2-3 days and was so scared I was never going to feel good again. Then day 3 much much better. I am almost 3 weeks out and on puréed foods now and so happy I did this. Hang in there. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I had to beg for then to stop it and give me Tylenol for the headache! At that point the headache was making me more miserable than anything!
TheRev 235 Posted November 4, 2016 That little pain pump made me a happy little bundle of newly carved up flesh. LOLSeriously, I had a timer on my phone that went off every 8 minutes to remind me that "YO! ROB! Get your happy juice flowing again!"Joking aside, it's a process. The first few days can be rough as your body tries to get used to what just happened to it. Rest, fluids, meds. You'll come out the other side!
DaleCruse 756 Posted November 4, 2016 I never had a pain pump. I was lucky enough not to need it. Each of us have different experiences.
_Kate_ 2,224 Posted November 4, 2016 For most of us every day is better than the day before. You have gone through, not only a huge physical change but also the huge mental aspect of 'all of this'. You CAN do this. Kate
24601 210 Posted November 4, 2016 Repeat after me, "It will get better. It will get better. It will get better." You are in the thick of it right now. I regretted my surgery right afterwards and pined after a big plate of nachos. Almost a year out and I am in the best health of my life. It will get better. As soon as I got up to use the restroom and walk, I was given the liquid pain meds. I was discharged the following day. Aggiemae 739 Posted November 5, 2016 Despite 6 months of prep on the third day post op I had a sudden flash that doing this was insane, that I am insane and my world was never going to right it's self. That was just a week ago. Thing look much different already.
