Not going to lie, my post-op Day 2 has been HELL. The pain has been worse, I'm doubly exhausted, and the transition to swallowing pills before they even had me swallowing Water was nuts. I'll get through, but wow! Thankfully yesterday was a good day and kind of balances out today. I will probably stay another night at the hospital as I'm honestly not at all ready to be on my own yet and there will be no one to help me tomorrow, so I should get as much as I can here.

What kind of pain are you experiencing? Is it from your abdomen or?? Thanks in advance

Surprisingly 5 days post-op I'm still a bit uncomfortable from trapped air.

Abdominal and gas pain. My nurse warned me, but I was really surprised how tough today has been. I spent most of it crying or in spasms from the pain. I'll be going home tomorrow presumably.

OH!

Don't know if you all know about them, but the thing I found to help the gas pain that worked the best are Gas-X strips that dissolve on the tongue. I found mine at CVS near the antacids, but have seen them at Walmart, Target, Walgreens, etc. attachicon.gif 20161122_174634.jpg

I found I had to take them much more often than the recommended dose. My surgeon didn't have a problem with it, but I'd definitely check with yours so they're aware.

I'm going home today, thankfully. I feel much, much better compared to yesterday. I wasn't sure yesterday would ever end, but it did. Just kept reminding myself that time takes time.

How are you feeling today?

I'm 6 days post-op and you're definitely a happier camper than me.

My doctor's office doesn't mind about gas-x. I bought two boxes but since they didn't help at the beginning I sort of wrote them off. Do you take them regardless or when you're uncomfortable? BTW, I hate mint, so it's a big deal to put one on my tongue

So glad you are going home today!

I am 3 days post op and surprisingly feeling well. Ive been able to drink my protien & Water with minimal gas discomfort. I am using the Gas-x thin strips occasionally. I'm sorry for those of you having difficulty.

I'm so sorry to hear you're struggling, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. I was taking 2-4 at a time regardless, but now that I'm having a little less gas build up, I've been taking just one every few hours. If I start to feel more build up, I'll take one or two every couple of hours until it subsides.

I hope you start to feel better really soon!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
