Everyone getting sleeved tomorrow 11/22 what are you packing for the hospital?

I'm wearing the only pants I'll be taking, a pair of very loose, comfy lounge pants that won't irritate my abdomen. I'm taking a camisole, a looser tank top in case the camisole bothers me, a soft sports bra without underwire, and I'm wearing the "slippers" I'll use to walk around the hospital. I'm also taking a notebook in case I decide to journal, one of my mio Water flavoring things, toothbrush/paste, face and body wipes, deodorant, hand lotion, my medications, my phone, and the charger. I have netflix and books on my phone if I get bored while awake. Oh, also a sweatshirt. I usually over pack for everything. I think it's a Latina thing, but I did try to keep it to a minimum. My body temperature fluctuates, so I have to prepare for everything. I believe they will give us compression stocking to wear, so I wasn't planning on bringing socks beyond what I'm wearing in.

Good luck! Let me know how it goes tomorrow! Mine is at 7:30, so thankfully I don't have to wait around.

See you on the other side!

4 days pre op and I have to wonder why I was so worried about recovery. I was up same day on my own wandering halls of hospital and drinking fine. Only stayed in one night which was great

I had surgery on Friday as out-patient. I started my Protein today...two ounces in (over the course of 10-15 mins) and I've been stuffed for hours. Literally like 4 hours. Miserable. Tomorrow is a new day, and I'll take it slower. Do things take longer to digest? I haven't heard that but I see how that's possible.

Congrats on your transition. Sounds like you are doing amazing!!!

I had my sleeve on November 9th. Doing great getting all my Protein and liquids in so far. Almost no pain at my incisions, just took Tylenol in the hospital for pain, and since. Looking forward to moving on to puree on Wednesday!

I'm scheduled for Nov. 21st. I'm not going to lie. I'm a lot anxious about post-opt.

I've read too many posts about complications and difficulties. Honestly, it sounds horrifying.

I live in Austin, Texas. Are there any support groups here?

Thanks.

21st in Oklahoma

OH!

Don't know if you all know about them, but the thing I found to help the gas pain that worked the best are Gas-X strips that dissolve on the tongue. I found mine at CVS near the antacids, but have seen them at Walmart, Target, Walgreens, etc. post-298966-14798547921695_thumb.jpg

Not going to lie, my post-op Day 2 has been HELL. The pain has been worse, I'm doubly exhausted, and the transition to swallowing pills before they even had me swallowing Water was nuts. I'll get through, but wow! Thankfully yesterday was a good day and kind of balances out today. I will probably stay another night at the hospital as I'm honestly not at all ready to be on my own yet and there will be no one to help me tomorrow, so I should get as much as I can here.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
