Hey everyone I'm excited to back on this journey again. I had started the process last year in California but ended up moving to Washington state. Now I have a 6 month pre op diet to follow and I'm about half way done. I will be having my surgery at the UW in Seattle and I have UHC. Anyone else in WA having surgery around that time?

Heyyyy,

I live in Vancouver and I am also on the same track, the time will go by quickly. I should be done with all of Molinas requirements at the end of this month, I thought that because I'd be done with all of my appointments at the end of November, that I'd be able to have surgery in December and boy was I wrong...

UW has their own set of requirements and expectations, I had my first appointment there on October 19th and I was told that I have to have an appointment with their social worker, one with a physical therapist of theirs, an appointment with the nutrionist, as well as labs done by my primary care physician and a upper endoscopy.

They said even if all of my requirements are done, the surgon is booked out a few months, so this is indeed a long process. I just started my journey in June, so I'm just trying to be as proactive and positive as possible.

I have learned so much in the last 5 months! I'm so excited to have surgery! I will be having my RNY at UW in Seattle! Good luck with everything! ☺

Hey love Congrats, I hope it goes by fast for you. I will hopefully be done by feb-March. My PCP is at the UW so I am able to start the UW requirements at the same time I'm doing my insurance requirements so that I can finish them at the same time. I have my appointment with the surgeon today and then hopefully they will schedule me for the rest of the stuff. I'm excited. Getting the RNY as well

That's cool, do you live in or around Seattle? It's a 3 hour drive for me! I was just there today for the visit with the Social worker. She says I should be able to have surgery around March, possibly sooner! Sounds like we will be having our surgeries around the same time! ???? Hope you're appointment went well! They said I won't be meeting with the surgon until I'm almost finished with all of the appointments/requirements! I'm super excited also. ???? Feel free to message me if you'd like.

I live in Everett. So it's about a 45 min drive. I thought I was meeting the surgeon but it was just a physician assistant. I meet with the social worker on the 21st of December. I have to get a ton of test done.

The physician's assistant that I met with on October 19th was very rude, so I hope that you had a better experience because after meeting with her, I felt discouraged. It was a bad experience. She had scheduled me for December appointments also, but I just kept calling and checking for cancellations and they were able to find me some closer dates! I wish my drive was only 45 minutes! I thought I was meeting the surgon too, but apparently that comes way later. I was kind of bummed. Does your insurance require you to lose a percentage of your weight before surgery? I was told 5% by my insurance company.

Mines was rude too. It was probably the same one. Was she really little? She kept asking me repetitive questions and being judge mental. Yes my insurance requires me to lose 5% as well. Meet with the NUT 2x a month for 6 months and my pcp 1x a month for 6 months.

Yes! Kim Herzog.. right? I couldn't believe how unprofessional she acted and the way that I was treated! I did call the office the next day and told them about my experience. Definitely not a good way to treat people who are seeking help! If you're comfortable calling in to tell someone, I would recommend it.

We pretty much have the same requirements then! I should be done with everything by the end of this month. I actually learned a lot in PT and at the NUT. It's have all had a positive impact on me and I've been able to make some good changes, although my weight isn't coming off very quickly. Today the social worker told me that they don't even schedule patients with the surgon until the 5% is lost! Very motivating to stick with my new healthy habits!

OMG YES!! That's little ball of fire lol she was horrible today. I could not wait to get the appointment done and over with. I will definitely call in about it. I agree with you about learning. My NUT is amazing I love her lol. My weight is coming off slow as well. I have ten more pounds to lose to meet my 5% but I want to aim for more. I found this pre op meal plan online so I'm going to follow it.

Haha yeah, she's NOT nice! She kept saying "I'm not the one having surgery" and I'm just like yeah obviously lol. She argued with me back and forth about me being an emotional eater, lol im not. She had me feeling so upset, I almost walked out, but I knew that she would be the one deciding to move me forward or not, so I just sat there and went along with her rudeness.

I've only lost 4lbs so far and in total need to lose 18.8lbs, so I'm down to 15, it's happening too slowly. Can I ask where to find that preoperative diet plan? I'm totally down to try it!

Oh my God I thought I was the only person who thought she was rude. I met with her last month. I have to go next week to do my acid reflux test the 24 hour one. December 1st I have to see their social worker, nutritionist and have my GI Imaging. I'm having a hard time getting my upper endoscopy appointment. I've called several times but the lady hasn't called back. I keep getting voicemail.

I can & I will

I'm up in Bellingham about two hours away from UW

I can & I will

I would highly suggest that anyone who has had a bad encounter with this woman to let it be known to UW, whether it be in writing or over the phone, you can even remain anonymous! It is unfair for any patient (bariatric or not) be treated without dignity and respect.

Glad to know that it wasn't me just taking things too personal, she really shouldn't be in this area of work.

I was told that I can take my upper endoscopy referral back to Vancouver and get the procedure done around town. Places are booked for months! The UW Gastrointestinal clinic finally called yesterday and told me that they're booked until the new year!

Best thing we can do is be proactive and continue pushing through! ????

That's crazy that we all had the same rude person. I have to do an upper GI test, EGD, physical therapy, labs and meet with the dietitian and social worker. All my appointments are back to back next month. I'm also having a hard time getting my EGD scheduled.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
