Huge weight loss and plastic surgery......

Recommended Posts

I have about 200 pounds to lose. I'm curious. Has anyone lost 100 to 200 pound and NOT needed to have plastic surgery i.e. Tummy Tuck or anything. Or is this inevitable?

With that much weight to lose (I'm in your same position) it is inevitable. Of course, there is a big difference between needing a lower body lift (I don't think a simple Tummy Tuck will do it for that kind of loss), and getting one.

Oh I would love to have a body lift. I watch it all the time on those surgery chanels. I cant believe what a difference it makes. I had my breast done about 4 months ago. It has made me feel soooo much better about myself. I would really like to save up now and get a TT or body lift for my 40th birthday. I guess you have to have extra money to save in the first place so I guess that will never happen. LOL. But to answer you question. I lost 100 pounds and I could really use some work done on my lower stomach. Even if I never get it done I still like myself more now then before.

I've lost 109 pounds so far and I don't feel I need a Tummy Tuck. I have 13 pounds to go and the only thing I do notice is my upper arms are flabby. I should be doing weights on them and I think that would help. I was just complaining to my mom the other day and she said when you get it on in bed it all lays down flat and guys don't notice. I laughed and felt better.

Unless you have the cash, or really have issues with your body AFTER you get to your goal weight, I say forget the surgery.

Melissa, a Tummy Tuck (abdominoplasty) is considered elective surgery and therefore not covered. Having said that, if you have problems with the panniculus (that "apron" that hangs over) causing chronic skin infections in the area where skin surface touches skin surface, it can become medically necessary and then insurance would cover it. There have been posters who have had it and gotten insurance coverage. I don't know how easy/difficult it is to prove the medical necessity and get it approved.

hey melissa...i have aetna ppo they r covering my panniculectomy...not a tummy tuck....like parrothead kathy said...if its a medical necessisty and u r having issues due to the "apron" (the flap of fat that hangs over) insurance will cover a panni...my dermatalogist and m.d. wrote letters to my insurance company letting them know its medically needed...i'm scheduled for surgery the first week in july....good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have lost a total of 180 pounds since my highest weight, and I COULD go without any Plastic Surgery.

I have survived it quite well. The most apparent "residue" (for lack of a better term) is skin that hangs down from my tummy. But it's not real bad. It does not really resemble the "apron" that some people have. My doctor did say that he would refer me to Plastics and have that taken care of (Kaiser), which I thought was quite cool.

There are other areas of my body that could use a "lift". My upper arms are a bit flabby. And my upper-inner thighs are VERY stretched out. But it is all in areas that most people would never see, so it doesn't bother me much.

I was afraid that my face would suffer, that I would have tons of skin hanging down from my chin. That has proven NOT to be the case. However, it has been curious to note an interesting change in my face. I would liken it to the effect of a balloon that has been inflated for several days, and is just beginning to lose a little bit of air. There is a slight "softening" to the outside of the balloon. It sags just a little bit. I don't know if I'll have this changed....I'm not THAT vain! But, i also don't like looking TOO much older than I am. I don't know....the jury is still out!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
