Anyone ever have a stricture?

Recommended Posts

I had gastric bypass a month ago. 2 weeks later I was throwing up everything I ate due to the stuck feeling. Last Monday I had an EGD and dilation and for 4 days I was finally able to eat and not get sick. However, the last 3 days the stuck feeling has returned. Can your esophagus shrink back a little after the dilation? Has anyone had to have a second dilation? & did the second one work for you?

I did not have a stricture but many people on this website have reported having them. Some have to go through dilation two or more times. So it is a little common.

Slight stricture here and I am keeping it. It keeps me walking a very straight and narrow line. I have to take small bites, chew very well and soft foods go down much easier than solids. Keeps me honest.

lots of people have strictures. I had two (I think they were in week 4 and week 8). No problems with them since, but they're pretty rare once you get past the 3 month mark.

Thanks everyone for replying. Hoping dilation one more time will do the trick. Def can't live like this forever or even the foreseeable future as I'm miserable. It doesn't matter how little of bites I take or how many times I chew my food gets stuck.

I had a stricture before surgery and it landed me in the ER or the gastroenterologist's table at least a half dozen time. I usually couldn't clear it on my own so they'd have to go fishing for it. It was a miserable experience and wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
