Depends on insurance requirements. Are you self pay? It could be quicker if you are and also depending on the program you're going through. For example my seminar was aug 18, first consult sept 6, and last surgeon appt will be nov 8. From that appt my info gets submitted to my insurance and if approved I am looking at dec surgery.

Are you self-pay or are you going through insurance? If it is insurance, it will depend on the requirements of your policy. If you're self-pay, it will depend on any requirements the doctor might have, but I would imagine they would schedule you as soon as they have availability.

It took me 6 months to finish all of my prerequisite appointments. They didn't even try to get the insurance to approve my procedure until I was almost finished.

I was the same way. In fact, not only could my surgery not be scheduled until I finished the requirements (six months of doctor visits, a psych evaluation, and 1 visit with a nutritionist) and insurance approved it, I had to have my surgical clearance from my PCP and pay a down-payment (that, consequently, the doctor has to return since my insurance paid it) before they would schedule it. It was quite a process, but worth it all when I watched nearly $50K of doctor and hospital charges disappear before my eyes!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
