On my plan, you can have salads beginning at Week 7 post-op. What does your plan say since they all have their differences?

Initially (and this is my personal thought) salad isn't the best thing to eat early on only because your stomach is still recovering, will be tiny with the swelling and you need Protein before salad. I eat salad now after 15 months and really enjoy it but there are times that i can't eat much, maybe a couple of bites after I get the Protein in, on the plate. Go by what your team says, as I am sure there will be lots of differing thoughts here

Congratulations on the surgery :)

As far as my plan goes, they consider this useless food. Its all about Protein first. I was just cleared for vegetables (11 weeks out). I will say this, the past few weeks, if a piece of lettuce ended up on my plate (say with something I ordered out, I'd take a bite and the crunch was nice. Its difficult chewing lettuce to liquid consistency which you should be doing for quite some weeks.

I do need the Fiber though, so as I continue to introduce new vegetables into my diet, I will be adding a little bit of lettuce now and then.

I was told never to eat iceburg lettuce since it's basically just Water. Stick with spinach salads but I have to wait like 4 months before I can eat raw veggies so no salads until then.

I was allowed raw veggies such as salad at 6 weeks post op but I will tell you, my tummy did NOT like it one little bit. It was nearly 12 months before salads became a part of my life every day.

And, it is very important that you ensure that you add and eat good Protein to your salads so you have balance.

I love salads now but have noticed that if i am not very careful i tend to eat more of the veggies and push away some of the Protein. In that instance it is not the best meal because when i don't eat the protein, i am hungry again fairly quickly.

My NUT stressed to us we shouldn't bother with salads......ever.

She stressed a lot of stuff.

My opinion......she looks as if she could benefit from eating more salad, lol.

i waited about 8 months or so. It was a funny occurrence. I'd been in the habit of grabbing Protein eats from fast food spots on busy work days. I'd order a grilled chicken sandwich and toss the bread and have the rest.

One day I made my order but was told it'd be a wait.....I asked if they had a grilled chicken breast salad....they did and I ordered. I ate the chicken first but then had a few handfuls of the lettuce (not iceberg...but decent greens) and was pleased with the flavor. I didn't die nor did I have any issues. So.....from that point forward I have enjoyed eating salads.

@@Dub Sounds like your NUT and my NUT have been hanging out, minus the her needing to eat more salad. Mine told me lettuce is a waste of space and hard to digest. She said I could, however, start with cooked spinach and move on to raw, see how it treated me. I haven't gotten there yet, but generally, she recommended I rethink my definition of salad.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
