This has been by far the hardest thing for me. Anyone else ?

My doctor told me to wait 30/1 hr to drink after eating and I always want to drink while eating or few mins after it's been hard to do that I've been waiting but how long do we have to do this ? Is it forever ? Anyone else struggle with this ?

I make an eating and drinking schedule for every day. It really is a full-time job. I still have 2 more weeks of medical leave before I go back to work, but when I do have to go back, I'm going to have to set alarms on my phone or something to prompt me when it is time to drink or stop drinking to help keep up with it when my mind is focused on something else.

I haven't had the need or urge to drink while eating or right after, but keeping up with everything is a huge organizational task. I feel like I am a pretty organized person, but it is a challenge even for me. (That's why I don't see how these people who talk about going back to work after a week can do it all in such short order...)

With me, I get wrapped up in thinking about something else, and before I know it, I have let an hour go by and I haven't drank anything. I've done that 2 or 3 times over the past week or two. When I go back to work, I'll get my mind in what I am doing (or in the endless conference calls that consume so much of my day), and I know I risk that happening all the time. That's why I am going to have to use the alarms or something...

To be honest, I eat about 8 different times over the course of the day, and I haven't gotten close to filling up my new stomach. (I'd say 2 oz at one time is the most I eat.) So, I don't have restriction issues after eating (with regard to drinking). I just don't because that is what I was told to do.

Today, I get to add salmon to my diet. I am cooking a 6 oz filet and I'll eat 2 oz of it at three different times this afternoon and tonight. We'll see how I do with that in terms of stomach space...

Thank god I have a friend at work that's in same meetings and will nudge me to make me remember. But it is hard

At times it can be a struggle. I started not eating with meals a while before the surgery to get used to that.

I am now 8 months post surgery, I sometimes I'll try to get something drink right after eating, and have a couple of times. What I experienced was enough to remind me to not do that again.

My program says to wait 30 minutes after a meal and I learn early on that I needed to increase that time to 45 minutes. I set timers on either my phone or my fitbit for that amount of time. For me it's easiest way to not drink too soon.

These the times I have experience and I hope something is helpful. And by the way, for being around other that are further out in the process, it's a lifetime thing.

If you do it all the time it will become such and ingrained habit that you won't really think about it anymore (apart from looking at the clock). I don't wait 30 minutes before eating anymore (im 15 months out) but I am really strict regarding drinking afterwards and usually wait 45 - 60 minutes. I want to feel full for longer.

It's hard but its worth it in my opinion and yes... forever.

Kate :)

I thought it would be an issue for me.

It really hasn't been as I hate the feeling I get if I drink too soon after eating. Waiting 30 mins has been really easy to do.

I fail miserably at waiting 30 mins after drinking to eat, though.

I do great on getting my Water in. I pound that stuff all day long. I love it. Staying hydrated is easy and feels great.

Yes, I struggle. I actually do better on work days, because I constantly have a cup right next to me. At home, I don't get up as early on the weekend, taje naps, etc none of which is conducive to a Water schedule.

I bought a marked water bottle on Amazon. It's helpful! I do miss drinks with meals. But, such is my new life!

I didn't drink close to meals early o n just because being overly full hurts.

Now I drink whenever I want. I don't eat sliders and my food is portioned. I also don't have hunger issues.

Everything at the beginning isn't forever

At first it was annoying to have to wait 30 minutes before drinking.. but i tried a few times to drink sooner and it doesn't end well. (Usually a choking sensation followed by throwing up).. I'm 5 months out now and it's pretty easy to wait, it becomes second nature.

The 30mins no drinking before eating rule I do not follow, I drink right up to just before I take my first bite and everything's fine.

It was weird to get used to. I try to make sure I don't have a drink nearby when I eat so I don't mindlessly take a drink.

I put a greeting card flat over the top of the cup to remind me not to drink out of it during that time.

The 30 min rule BEFORE eating is suspect...

Some require it, others do not. I'm allowed to drink up until I take my first bite of food. I don't think it is a hard and fast rule....

But that's just MY OPINION...so drop the weapons peeps

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
