i am going to whine about my stall.

Recommended Posts

I know I know, stalls happen, embrace it, etc.

I think that sometimes people on here who have been sleeved for a while and lost a lot forget how FRUSTRATING it can be. It's so hard at the beginning and to stall in the first few weeks is really annoying. I have been completely on plan and haven't lost a POUND in 10 days (I'm 17 days out). My weight is exactly the same. im sticking to my diet 100%. i just dont understand how i can be eating 500-700 calories a day and NOT losing weight. when I used to diet I'd eat 1200/day and lose tons the first few weeks, even without exercise. I feel like this was a waste of 14K and I'm failing and it's just not going to work for me.

I know this is probably over dramatic but it's so hard to stick to this diet and get used to all these new rules and then have NO reward. I just wanted to commiserate and find some support here. Needed to vent!

@@ella37,

I too am currently trying to 'embrace the stall'. I am 4 weeks out and my stall began on week 3. However, my clothes are fitting looser, regardless of the scale numbers being stubborn.

Have you tried anything on recently? You might notice it's looser! And that will help keep your chin up through the stall.

:)

Like @@KristenLe said, it's not like dieting. I used to think the exact same way as you during the first weeks post op. I would continuously wonder how it was possible to not loose weight when being absolutely 100% on plan. In the past I would loose like crazy whenever I would diet and go under 1000 calories(but then gain back plus more just as fast). Stick with your surgeon's guidelines and before you know it the scale will move. I agree with @@The New Kel, try on some clothes or take your measurements....you might be surprised!

If you are only eating 500-700 calories then you probably aren't eating enough.

I HIGHLY recommend that you just stay off the scale until you can reliably get in all of your Protein and fluids and can up your calories. You are still healing from major surgery.

Interesting. Just out of curiosity, how many calories are you eating daily?

Interesting. Just out of curiosity, how many calories are you eating daily?

I am much further out than you so am eating closer to 1400-1600 with regular exercise.

Early out, I was closer to 1200-1400. Personally, until you can get at least 1000 calories, I think it is a good idea to just stay off the scale.

Early out, I only weighed at my doctors appointments.

The most important thing is to get in all of your protein and fluids.

@Inner Surfer

Thanks for the help. I have actually been trying to keep calories way down by using low cal stuff b/c I see so many others on here who are losing tons and barely getting in any calories. I will try to boost them up.

I am only 4 mths out and have had multiple stalls. I let my frustration go because why stress myself out over something I cannot control. All I can do is meet the goals my surgeon set for me. My body will do its own thing in its own time.

Weightloss is not steady and stalls will happen for most everyone who is sleeved.

When I stalled I cut back carbs and unstalled right away. It may be worth a try.

Too few calories can be just as bad than too many. Many "low cal" products have added sugar - which is what you want to stay away from.

I was just thinking about this and I'm going to try it starting today. I've been hovering around 50 carbs, I'm going to try to stay at 30. Thanks!

I have to agree on carbs...and I've got to be more diligent about it too :)

I workout a lot, so I tend to eat more and I've been slacking on watching the carbs. And I do notice slower weight loss and even stalls. Some days I get in 65 carbs :/

Thanks for the reminder

One Q, how many do you aim for?

You are in the dreaded three week stall that 99% of us went through. In my opinion, there isn't squat you can do about it but ride it out. Your body is in complete control right now, and will be for several months.

Further out from surgery? That's when there are things you can do to help stalls along like increasing calories and lowering carbs. This is the time you concentrate on Protein and fluids and just healing up.

Go with the flow for now and let it happen. Its not Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig. It's major surgery along with a lifestyle change that takes time to ease into. The weight will come off at your body's own pace. Promise.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
