November RNY Buddies!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

My surgery date is coming up soon (Nov 9th) and I'm looking for anyone else that's having surgery around the same time. I'd love to have some surgery buddies to text/message throughout the process. I don't really use FB but I'm on Instagram (same name) if anyone wants to be friends there!

As a bonus if there's anyone that's also pre-op in Chicago, I'd love to chat. I'm going through Northwestern Memorial with Dr. Fronza.

Thanks!

Christina

So I had my RNY surgery nov 9th was feeling really out of it the first day the second day was a bit better but still in a lot of pain(which I really wasn't ready for) I had to ask for dilaudid every 4 hours but my dr ordered it for every 2 which was good. The constant interruption in the hospital was relentless between vitals, meds, liquid food, and ambulating. It was not a really restful atmosphere. By the third day I couldn't take the pain anymore but I didn't want to continue to take the dilaudid, but I had too cause the pain was to great. Then I woke up feeling a lot better and actually went home on Percocet which I only took 3 pills. So today being my 4th day out of surgery the pain is a bit better I'm taking my 2 Protien shakes plus Water and I was able to squeeze in a chicken Beth Soup. I was able to go for my walk do 10 mins that's all I could handle right now. My blood sugars have been less than 128 so I haven't needed any meds yet. I see my endocrinologist in two weeks with all my numbers and she will decided what meds if any I would need. Pray for me cause I'm really really sore.

Ellapearl how have u been feeling?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
