Surgery Monday 10/24 Feeling Hungry

Recommended Posts

Are you taking a PPI? Stomach acid, which most people manufacture in excessive amounts after sleeve surgery, will make you feel hungry. If you aren't on something like 40 mg daily of omeprazole, you may want to talk to your surgeon or PCP about that. Or you can just buy it OTC.

I'm taking 40mg of Protonix. I'm nervous that something went wrong with the surgery.

I had my surgery last Friday and I was surprised that I got hungry a few days later. I would have a Protein shake and would be good

I start as soon as I wake up in the morning. I have made it my job for the next few weeks.

I think that's normal. When people are in pain, they think something went wrong with the surgery, when people (like myself) had the easiest recovery (or was hungry the first couple of weeks), we think something went wrong with the surgery. By the 3rd day I felt so "normal" and I swear I thought they didn't do it except that I had holes all over my tummy hehe.... But once I hit the solid food stage, there was no doubt about it. ^^ Your hunger will drop off once the swelling goes down and you get the acid under control. ;)

That's how I feel. I have had a pretty easy recovery. Getting in the Protein and liquids, moving around pretty good, didn't have a need for pain killers. I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing and hoping for the best.

Any advice on how to get my 48-60g Protein and 60oz liquid in a day? I was sleeved on October 24th, so this is my 5th day? I'm also hungry or at least I think I am. Lol

Be sure you are taking a PPI (acid reducer). Start drinking as soon as you get up and keep sipping throughout the day. 2 shakes with high Protein will get you the protein you need and should count towards your liquids too. Find non caloric drinks that you like - tea, crystal light, Powerade Zero, broth, sf popsicles, sf Jello. Just keep sipping.

I had the same thing going on and then realized that the feeling was actually acid. It feels very different post op then it did pre op and is just kind of like an unpleasant sensation in the stomach for me, similar to hunger.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
