I am not a doctor and this is not advice. I am just writing what I went through in my pre op program. Part of the program was a session with the psychologist. He asked me bunches of questions about my eating habits, and then we got to diets. He said, "Diets are a recipe for failure. As soon as you make something forbidden, you just want it more, and you WILL fail".

He (as part of the program) advocated for an 80/20 rule. He said, "Eat the stuff you are supposed to eat 80 percent of the time. The other 20% of the time is the time to eat the good stuff that is no good for you. That allows you to have a taste, and it is not something you start to crave because you know you will be able to have it from time to time".

Maybe this will work for you and maybe not. It has been doing pretty good for me so far. Good luck with it.
