Protein supplements - What is the highest # of protein with the lowest volume to have to drink?

Recommended Posts

I'm struggling to get in all my Proteins. I'm in my 3rd week post-op and right now can only get in close to 75 and that's with working at it all day. I'm also scared to go into the pureed stage without figuring out how to get my max Protein in. So I'm thinking that if I can find the highest levels of Protein in the lowest volume of liquid I might be able to get this all in.

I have Premier Protein at home which is 30 grams protein in 11oz liquid. The problem is it makes me ill so far so I can't drink it yet. Any suggestions? I'm scared for my hair. lol!

I can't drink any Protein drink, pre-made or otherwise. I'm a big fan of unflavored Protein if I find myself running low on protein. Maybe get some unflavored protein and add it to your purees/drinks. I use GENEPRO but others here like Isopure and many others.

Thank you, that's great advice! Oh, I'm not limiting my liquids. I'm trying to get more Protein in less volume of liquid but I'm well over my Water requirements for each day. My issue is that I love water and am struggling with everything else but the water. lol!

There are Protein Shots but don't think they taste very good. Premier Protein gives you a great "bang for your buck", plus you NEED fluids. At 3 weeks out you shouldn't be minimizing fluids.

I use muscle tech platinum 100% whey Protein isolate strawberries and cream and it's so thin and taste like strawberry milk. Also use nectar unflavored Protein in my pureed foods, yogurt, apple sauce, malt o meal, oatmeal and crystal light.

I have been doing Protein shots called New whey. They aren't awesome but 42g Protein so it really helps me get my numbers. I found them at GNC. They taste a little like cough Syrup to me.

I was told not to do the shots or bullets. And if u already have had surgery than ur only getting 20-30 grams of protein in a 1 hour window

You're best bet, by far, is to add a half scoop of unflavored whey Protein isolate to a scoop of flavored whey Protein isolate

Keep away from protein blends. You don't know what % of what kind of protein you're getting with those.

I don't care what anyone here says, based upon MY BODY, MY RESEARCH and MY RESULTS, ones like Premier Protein are not good enough. You'll be getting a crap- ton of protein, yes, but what kind? In what proportions???

Treat your body like a temple...

And know what you're feeding it to get the most from your surgery and your tool...give it the best.

As for protein shots- most brands are actually made from an indigestible (unusable!!!) form of protein.

Adding one scoop of flavored gives you- for instance- 24g, adding 1/2 scoop of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored bumps you another 11, to a total of 35g of good protein.

This is the BEST unflavored Protein powder I have found. I can mix it in with just about anything.

https://www.amazon.com/Clean-Label-Protein-Unflavored-Servings/dp/B019YWFHAW

It's 22 grams a scoop but I usually add 1/2 a scoop.

Muscle Milk is the only Protein Drink I've been able to tolerate. I'm 17 days out and my recommendation is 60 G.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
