What have you used to lighten appearance if surgical scars? I have a light olive complexion, so I think scars tend to be more visible. Is straight coco butter best? Shea butter? When did you start applying it and did it help? All the glue finally came off and I would like to be proactive. Any suggestions?

I use bio oil and Skin Medica scar gel as this brand was recommended by my friend who is nurse in dermatology surgery center.

You guys do realize that you are going to have stretch marks and wrinkles after you shrink, right? Those scars are going to be the least of your worries. I gave up long ago worrying about them because of a car accident, but I actually think that makes it easier. The little bitty incisions from gastric surgery just blend in with my saggy skin and other scars.

Some things can't be helped. Others can. Nothing wrong with addressing something that can be improved. If it doesn't bother you, great! What might bother a person can differ wildly from individual to individual and that's ok. :-)

Bio corneum

Ugh. stretch marks, wrinkles, saggy skin.... All part and parcel of the weight gain and surgery.

Mederma, bio corneum, melaquin, hydroquinone, ammonium lactate.... There are a zillion out there.

Stretch marks fade... As do the angry scars from the surgery. But we feel like we need to DO something, so let us do just that.

And? As women, so much of this world is tied up in our appearance---think of the sheer volume of makeup products and anti wrinkle creams out there--- and you'll get it. Not saying it is right, but there it is.

For me? I'll fight aging tooth and nail, and what ever little benefit I see in 30 years, well, I'll take it.

For the saggy tummy skin and boobs---that's what plastics are for.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
