An I am ONLY allowed 45g of carbs a day!!!!! Pretty strict right? No breads, milk, potatoes, cereals, Pasta, rice, sugar, flour based foods, ice cream, sweets, an so much more.

It will be tough, especially the first few days, but you can do it! Once you get through the first several days it will get easier and you will start to lose the cravings for high carb foods and sweets. Good luck!

That's actually a good way to get ready for post-sleeve life. You will be on a high Protein, low carb diet for most of the rest of your life. I wasn't allowed breads until 6 weeks out from surgery and then only a slice of toasted whole wheat bread if it had Protein on it. A few weeks ago, I had two bites of Pasta at a family event, but haven't had a bowl of Pasta (I'm Italian) since May. Look into Fairlife Milks -- high protein, low carb. Very tasty - I don't like skim, but I like their skim. You'll be surprised how fast the weight will come off once you cut out the carbs. You will have some headaches the first few days -but drink lots of Water - that will help.

The doctor usually tell U to start 2 weeks before surgery. Well I started myself in June. I knew my surgery was in September. I took responsibility to start. Because it is challenging to change your mind. these bad habits have bought U to having this surgery. By the time I was really suppose to start the 2 weeks of liver shrinking diet,I had lose 12 lbs. Which helped my surgery go better for me and the Dr. Please put forth this effort. This is not for the faint at heart. It takes your time and commitment.

I have Tricare Prime and they didn't have any set restrictions like that. My surgeon has hers but not Tricare. I bet these are your surgeon's requirements and you definitely have to follow those. I've lost 25 lbs so far, and my surgery is Tuesday.

My six-month insurance-required diet program was the best thing that ever happened to me. I completely re-established my relationship with food (I did low carb/high protein/high healthy fat with less than 20 carbs per day), lost 99 pounds by the day of surgery, and prepared myself for both the surgery and the life after the surgery. I am convinced that all that hard work pre-op is what has helped me to heal better, to embrace the food stages, and to continue the second half of my weight loss with success.

After having been on this board for several months now, some of the biggest recurring problems for people are there because of how little they did pre-op to prepare for the surgery and life after. I encourage you to take advantage of this time, lose the weight you can, and get yourself ready. You'll be so thankful later if you do.

Best wishes!

My surgery is in January, but I decided to work on changing my eating now, so it's not so hard later. You can do it!

Good for you! The six-month diet program that my insurance required was the best thing that ever happened to me. I completely re-established my relationship with food, lost 99 pounds pre-op, and prepared myself as best as I could for the surgery and life after. You won't regret the work you do pre-op, and you'll be thanking yourself later!

Good luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
