confused.gifHi I'm new to the board and have been browsing all morning, researching Dr.'s in the Dallas area, what to expect, etc. I haven't been banded but I'm seriously considering it. I'm curious about the adhesion thing. I had gall bladder surgery in 2000 and a subsequent surgery in 2003 to repair the hernia created from the gall bladder surgery (herniated where they pull the gall bladder out of the belly button). The hernia patch and the adhesions from both surgeries have hurt ever since - I've been told that it's all normal - even had an ultrasound of the belly area.

I'm 212 @ 5'3" with an apron an excess weight. I really want to lose weight. After reading the posts I'm wondering, did any one else get to this jumping off the diving board point and think - well- maybe I could constrict myself and try imposing liquid Proteins on myself...but then the old other voice of reason pipes up and says - whatta ya mean?? you've been working on this for a couple of decades and ya still haven't lost - just take the leap - one more surgery - this one to prevent additional problems like type II diabetes, bum knees, etc.

45 minute to 4 hour procedure??? Adhesions, port problems....OK y'all - tell me if I jump I won't regret it!!!

My name is Clara. I got my band on August 27th. I am 58 years old and I did it for my granddaughters. I want to see them grow up. I am from the DFW area. I used Dr. Bryce at Lone Star Lap Band. He operates out of Rockwall/Rowlett.

Back to health issues. I am diabetic. I have had knee replacement, hip replacement. Knee surgery is the worse thing I have ever been through. My knee still bothers me after 5 years out from surgery. Anyway, I have lost about 21 pounds since I started liquid diet on Aug 13 and guess what???? My knee does not hurt anymore. Go figure.

I also knew that the older I got, the more pounds I would pile on. So, that is how I made my decision. Good luck on whatever you decide. If you have any questions about Dr. Bryce, I will try my best to answer.

Thank you - you've cited all the reason I should DO IT NOW. I'm going to be a grandma in January. Legs and knees hurt, etc, etc. Do you have any thoughts or had correspondence with anyone with other local surgeons?

lottalbs---my step daughter used Dr. Wade Barker. Or perhaps it is Baker. Anyway, she really did like him. You may have seen the news story on TV in the past few weeks about the overweight man that was refused to adopt a child because he was overweight. The doctor that is doing his surgery in Dallas, free is Dr. Barker. She had her surgery at Doctors Hospital in Dallas. Let me know if this helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
