First Fills!

Recommended Posts

Has anyone been given their first fills yet? :D

I went in for my first fill a few days ago and it was HORRIBLE. He couldn't feel the port, so he kept prodding and prodding till the area started to hurt. Then when that didn't work, he jabbed the needle in me hoping he'd feel it that way... and wriggled it around a little. I know he knows what he was doing but urgh.

But anyway, that didn't work either so I'm here with a sore stomach (again!) and an appointment to get my first fill under X-ray or something:heh::nervous:faint:

I got my first fill on Sept 4. My doc does all of his fills under fluoro. Didn't hurt one bit. The worst part of it was when they completely filled (or almost completely filled) me and I thought I was going to heave the barium up. It just kind of sat in my throat for a few seconds and I felt what it would feel like to slime. Don't want to go there again! I don't really feel like I have restriction but I have only been eating solid foods for 2 days so I can't really tell. I feel bad writing this for all of you that are starving, but I am really never hungry. Yesterday I only ate 600 cals and my doc would like to see me around 1000. I have to force myself to eat, which is nice, but WEIRD!!!!!!

Good luck to everyone!

I had the same thing happen but twice. Very disappointed to go away with no fill. I went to the hospital and did flouro just to see where the port was and its to deep, my doc only has 2 in needles and I need at least a 3 in. I found a doc about 5 hours away that will take me who has 3 in needles so I see him on Sept 17th. Wish me luck.

The needle he gave me to take to hospital is about three inches, I think. I suppose they sometimes put the port deep so that when you loose weight, it doesn't show up too much.

ME TOO! I was told to stay at home until I could eat at least 500 calories. Took me six days post-op to get there. I feel like Alice in Wonderland--a half-cup of Soup looks GIGANTIC now.

I'm completely uninterested in food--might as well be a dog biscuit. I'm strictly eating for nourishment for the first time in my life. I went to the market by myself last Thursday, and even chocolate didn't look interesting. Now THAT'S freakin' magic...

I also go to Dr. Smith and no one mentioned calories to me. I also am not too interested in food, but eat because I know I need too. I tried a very very small piece of York Peppermint Patty that my husband had and it had no taste and chocolate is something I lived on prior to banding. My first fill is next Monday 9/17, but I was there last Fri due to chest pain and he took some out, so don't know what will happen next week.

I am struggling daily to get any sort of calories in. Right now my biggest problem is choosing between Water and Protein. I think I have it figured out now but we will see. I am a teacher so I talk a lot and therefore get thirsty. The last two days I have forgotten to stop drinking a half hour before lunch so then I miss out on lunch. GRRR. I am not hungry and like you food does not have that much appeal but I know I need to eat. Who would have ever thought that I would be concerned about not actually getting enough to eat? So I am still working on the timing, but am positive that I will get it. I have noticed that if I don't get enough calories I don't lose weight as quickly so that is motivation in itself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
