twinmommy2004 30 Posted October 27, 2016 I just recently decided to get sleeved in the spring. My husband was sleeved in October 2015, so I have learned a lot about this process through him. He never drinks with a straw because he was told it will put air into your stomach leaving little room for more Water or vital nutrients. I love drinking out of straws!! So, my question to you is do you drink through a straw post-op or not?

cdeisroth 420 Posted October 27, 2016 I was given a straw in my Water, in the hospital, 4 hours after my surgery. I really think this is a myth! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App
Bufflehead 6,358 Posted October 27, 2016 I was given straws to use in the hospital immediately post-op and used them with no problem. Since then I haven't just because I hate drinking from straws.

recreatingcate 132 Posted October 28, 2016 I use straws for everything. Even hot coffee, so I don't stain my teeth. So this was the first question I asked during my consult. The answer I got was that if you're comfortable with it, you're not having gas pains, and it assists you in getting your fluids in, then go for it! Remember to check with your surgeon, though, if you're really feeling troubled over it!

Lorie269 392 Posted October 28, 2016 3+ years out and I drink with a straw all the time. No issues at all and I really believe it helps me get more Water in throughout the day.
