Almost 6 months post op

Recommended Posts

I guess I'm an occasional lurker. I had surgery almost 6 months ago on May 4th. The first month was really hard but once I got back on solid foods I haven't had any problems. My initial start weight at consultation was 270 pounds. Day of surgery I was about 248. Today I am at 185 pounds a total loss of 85 pounds! I think the weight loss has finally slowed down a bit since I haven't lost anything for about 3 weeks or so. I am enjoying the new ways I eat. I eat a lot of Protein as suggested by the doctor. I haven't had any problems eating anything. Right now chicken, fish, and turkey are the main things I eat with a vegetable side. Still working hard to get down to goal weight which is between 160 and 165. I am so glad I did this.

As your meal volume increases, this gives you an opportunity. If you concentrate on consuming high Protein meals, you can begin to reduce the amount of Protein shakes you consume each day, and the calories these Protein Shakes contain. This is how I worked my way through many of the stalls I encountered after my RNY gastric bypass 3 years ago.

Your daily Protein requirement is met by a combination of the amount of protein you obtain from food combined with the amount of protein from protein supplements (protein shakes, protein bars). Right after gastric bypass surgery, the volume of food you are restricted to is minuscule (2 ounces) per meal. But as you get further along, the meal volume increases. Therefore if you concentrate on consuming high protein meals, you have a very important option available to you. You can start to reduce your reliance on protein supplements. I went from 3 protein shakes per day in the beginning, down to 2, down to 1, and then when my meal volume increased to 1 cup per meal at a year and a half, I was able to completely offload my use of protein shakes.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
