When and how to add in fiber

Recommended Posts

I'm three weeks post sleeve. When should I start adding in Fiber? What's the best way to do it?

I am almost three months out and I have been eating vegetarian chili regularly for almost two months.

You don't have trouble with gas? That's been my biggest problem since Day 1. I was thinking of adding Benefibre or taking Metamucil, but veggie chili is much more appealing!

ETA - I originally said three months out. I meant three weeks.

I'm almost three weeks out and started adding Fiber via benefiber after an episode of really bad Constipation during the first week.

I will do my best to not have that experience again!

I put benefiber in everything I make - eggs, whatever I purée, hot liquids and it works well. I don't put it in my shakes because it clumps up and I can't seem to prevent that.

I have about 2-4 teaspoons a day which works out to 3-6 grams of fiber. It's been working well for me.

Ah. I started Metamucil within 2 weeks, maybe sooner. I am pretty sure my doc told me I could immediately. Gas has not been a problem w the chili though. Not eating that much.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
