Recommended Posts

Hello, I had my sleeve surgery 3 weeks ago and I went this past Monday for blood work. My dr call and said my liver functions was highly elevated.. Has anyone else had this issue before? I go tomorrow to see my dr. to discuss what needs to be done. I am so worry!

Were they up prior to surgery? It goes hand in hand with fatty liver. Mine have returned to normal just months after surgery. They will probably do an ultrasound to confirm. Hope it's all ok.

Are you still taking pain meds or Tylenol? Any other meds like lipitor? It's possible it's just a normal reaction post-op. I think it could also be from not getting enough Protein. Hope it resolves soon.

I have not had any issues with my liver before surgery. I have not took any pain meds , Tylenol or Lipitor or anything like that. I just take my Vitamins and I do get enough of my Protein in. I still have my gallbladder. Just wondering what the dr will do when I go back tomorrow. I am so worry!

How is he defining "highly elevated"? Mine are at least double the normal range at my 3 month bloodwork and neither my surgeon nor my primary were concerned at this point. I did some research and found some studies that indicated particularly in women it is not unusual for liver panels to initially go up before coming down with rapid weight loss.

Your doctor may order some more specific tests to rule a few things out but I wouldn't worry at this point.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
