Darcey... just an off topic comment... I NEVER meet up with anyone with a name similar to my own... WOW! Cool. :(

Welcome! I second Marie's vote that you clearly MUST have met your prospective 'fill' doctors and gotten their word that you will be treated. Many are given names and find out 'after' their surgeries that these docs will not see them at all. Please don't get caught in that trap of assumption and be left out in the cold.

Hey Darcy,

Very cool meeting up with another Darcy.

Occasionally I run into another Darc (y, i, ie, ey), but even rarer when I find one with my same spelling (Mom liked the "E"). I like to tease my close friends that forget and spell mine Darcy...sometimes too much as some of them now just call me "E".

Your stats are great! Looks like Banding was definitely a good thing! I'm on a countdown now....4 days!

Thank you everyone for your input and info.

I just want to also ad that Dr. Javier De La Garza and staff also changed my life. I just finished my 2 week liquid phase and have already lost 20 pounds. But on the note of Drs. , he also called my husband back in the states after my surgery and sat down with my mom, who was with me, to discuss how the procedure went. Oh and the night before my surgery he met us at the restaurant to discuss any worries I might have. The after care is incredible. He has emailed me twice (on each week of my surgery anniversary), and all the nurses but one spoke enough English to get across very well. I am on my way to a new life.

If your insurance pays for the lapband procedure then ofcourse you should do it with a doctor in the states. But if there is no way you can get the procedure done here, having surgery in Mexico is a great alternative. But as everyone else is saying, do your research!!!!

I had surgery in mexico and except for a minor ( well didn't feel like that back then ) infection of a incision, there where no other complications. I have had only 1 fill so far and have lost around 100 lbs. Going for my 2nd fill in january, have to loose the last 20 lbs :(

A great resource is "mexicanbandsters" group on yahoo groups.

According to Dr. Ortiz's new book, "There will be an international surgeon locator available at Inamed's Mexican LapBand distributor web page www.mecachrome-medical.com." I haven't gone to that website, so I don't know if that locator service is available yet.

I thought I'd share this: There's a list of band doctors floating around that probably everyone has. I found out from Inamed that they did NOT publish this list. They don't know who compiled it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
