I'm at my my 2nd post op appt (saw the nurse last week but my surgeon couldn't be there) and was told I'm dehydrated and need IV fluids. I knew I was not getting 64 oz a day, but didn't think I was doing that bad.

Does anyone have tips for reaching your Water goals? I already feel like I'm drinking all day but not very much at a time.

My taste changed after surgery and even Water tasted horrible. But I found out that flavored water such as Crystal Light worked good, so that is what I relied on for fluids.

The Fluid requirement is met by a combination. It is not only the Water that you drink each day. But also the water you drink when you take your Vitamins and medicine. It is the milk you drink. It is the fluids content of the Protein shakes. It is the water component of the Soups you take. It is met by flavored water such as Crystal Light. It is met by sugar free popsicles. It is met by tea and Decaf coffee. It is a combination of all the fluids that you consume during the day.

The only thing that worked for me was literally holding the Water bottle in my hand and sipping every few seconds.

for me my best chance of getting all my fluids is first thing in the am I start with a bottle of room temp spring Water. I sip and sip until the first bottle is gone. Then, I drink my Protein shake which gives me another 11oz. 30 minutes after that, I start with a second bottle of water so by noon/1pm I already have around 48 ounces. I have my lunch, wait an hour and sip another bottle of water, sometimes 2 between lunch and dinner.

After dinner i slowly sip on more water but i really tone it down so i don't have to be up peeing all night. Holding the bottle in my hand ensures i will remember to sip.

also, I never ever go anywhere without a bottle of water in my hand.

I am easily able to get to 64 using this process. on the days i don't, i am lucky to get in 48 which is the minimum.

Best of luck to you!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
