Longhorn 1 Posted November 4, 2007 Good luck, tomorrow! Are you spending the night at the hospital? If not, you won't need the heating pad, etc., until you get home. The only things I brought to the hospital were a pillow for the ride home (which I also used in pre-op and recovery), some Carmex because my lips were dry, slip-on shoes, and a pullover dress. I wore a leisure bra and non-constricting panties. To put a ticker in your signature, go to UserCP at the top of any LBT page, then click on Edit Signature. Sades 4 Posted November 4, 2007 It is now Sunday, three days after surgery - I woke up feeling great! I think my gas is gone, can you believe that? I slept in bed all night. I did keep a heating pad on my left side where the port is and that helped the only pain I have left. The only thing is I don't think I am drinking enough Water, I need to get on the ball today. I get hungry a little but just eat a little SF pudding or SF Jello and the hunger goes away. I am sooooooo happy I got through it so good. I hope everyone upcoming does as well as I. I didn't think we could eat jello or pudding as part of the Fluid stage. I had a couple of very small mouthfuls of jelly yesterday but let them melt in my mouth before swallowing. Haven't tried to since because I reread my notes and jelly wasn't allowed at this stage.
Banded4Life 0 Posted November 5, 2007 Way to got Longhorn! Glad to hear your procedure went so well...now I only wish mine does! So I'm thinking about having a last grand meal before I go in..what do you all think! I have lost 10 lbs pre-op so maybe one cheat (my last one) before I go in? Something loaded with carbs! Holiwood 0 Posted November 6, 2007 Please tell me your joking... Your last grand meal needs to be before you start your pre-op diet.... maybe that is what you mean... I just read this and I want to interviene and say NO!! The reason your on a low carb or liquid diet is so that your liver decreases in size.. it make the surgery safer... since they need to place the port on the top of stomach which is under your liver..... One cheat leads to another.... and you will taste all your fav. food again... just in smaller portions... dont give in the head games.... that's all it is... Start NOW on how you look at food. Tell your self I know how it taste & I'll taste it again!!! where did it get me... Thats what I tell myself!!! SORRY FOR THE TOUGH LOVE!! I
lindata 1 Posted November 6, 2007 Banded4life - it might make you very sick. I'm not sure if it's possible to get sick under anaesthetics, but definitely when you wake up. I think the docs want your tummy to be as empty as it can be. And, believe me, you do not want to be puking with a sore tummy from being operated on. It can also cause your band to slip if you puke, especially if newly banded. It's too bad you didn't have your last meal a few weeks ago. I had my last "mealssss", many, many meals (haha) before the pre-op diet. Linda
Carsons_Mommy 0 Posted November 6, 2007 Way to got Longhorn! Glad to hear your procedure went so well...now I only wish mine does! So I'm thinking about having a last grand meal before I go in..what do you all think! I have lost 10 lbs pre-op so maybe one cheat (my last one) before I go in? Something loaded with carbs! Ok Banded4Life - so we've all been jumping all over you for thinking about your wanting to go and have a "Fairwell To Food" extravaganza... but come on people! We've all thought about it. Heck! Last night I even went out with my Dad, husband and little boy to my favorite Mexican restaurant. I ordered my favorite food, munched on a couple of chips w/ salsa and then my meal arrived... I couldn't bring myself to eat it. Well, ok - back up and I'll be honest here. That's not completely true. I ate a very small portion of it and then realized, "What am I doing? I don't really want to be eating this. It's just out of habit that I'm doing this. I know I need to be getting my body and, more specifically, my liver read for my surgery this Friday!!" I put my fork down and asked the waiter to take my plate. The other folks are right. You'll get to eat your favorite foods soon enough, but for now it's about making sure your body is ready for the surgery. Getting through that safely is what's most important, right? Drink some Water, have a Protein Shake, drink some more Water, go for a walk, listen to some music... whatever you need to do to focus on the success of your surgery. You can do it!!! :clap2: I know it's really rough getting through what feels, at times, like a form of medevil torture with the food "deprivation" but YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!:whoo: We're all here cheering you on!!!!! Don't inflict anymore bad food on your system and give it the rest it needs before you have your procedure. You'll be glad you did.
aa8ua 0 Posted November 6, 2007 Sounds like everyone is doing pretty well. So encouraging! My surgery is in 2 days, the 7th. Going in the right direction from there I hope. Good luck to everyone whose surgery is yet to come. Colleen
Banded4Life 0 Posted November 6, 2007 Hey guys, I don't feel like your picking on me...It's just that I have to travel starting at 5:00pm Thursday night before my surgery all night until 10:30am in the morning Friday to get to my surgery site (Red Eye from Washington State to Monerrey Mx) and since I am only taking a backpack I can't take my liquid protien drinks with me, so I thought well I could stop on the way to the airport and have a farwell dinner with my husband since he can't go with me. I didn't realize one meal right before surgery could effect the liver size so quickly. So I'll just have a Protein Drink before I go thru secuirty and then Water from then on. Thanks for all the support!
omlagirl 0 Posted November 6, 2007 My surgery is in 5 days! Time flys when your on a pre-op diet. NOT! lol I've had the worst headache since I've been on the pre-op. Is this normal? Anyone else experience this?
lindata 1 Posted November 6, 2007
Bandedforlife - I'm sorry if it sounded like I was getting mad at you! I just really feel for you because I know what it's like to want the last meal. Every diet I've ever been on, that's what I've done, so I understand the need for it. I totally pigged out before my pre-op diet. Some people thought that was stupid, that I should be trying to diet, but that was just what I had to do to say goodbye to the food and to the quantity of food I was used to eating. I'm not sure if a last meal will really enlarge your liver or not. My concern would be having a full stomach and being sick during or after surgery. I just wouldn't want anyone to go through that.

You know what you could do is pack some powdered Protein shake, dole them out into the right portions or take a scooper with you, and then buy milk on the way, shake it up and drink it.

Good luck with your sugery!
Omlagirl, maybe it's a low-carb thing. I know people who do Atkins get headaches at first. So if you're used to a lot of carbs, and now aren't getting many (if you're just having Protein shakes), that could be the cause. Or maybe you're not getting enough Water too. That happens to me - I get a headache if I don't drink enough. Linda
Carsons_Mommy 0 Posted November 6, 2007 Linda & omlagirl: I was getting some pretty bad headaches too, but I upped my Water and that helped a lot. I think Linda's right about the lack of carbs. They create sugar in your system and with that being taken away, it's likely your body's going through some withdrawals <?>. Seems logical anyway. Water really is the best natural remedy for a headache. ...but what I'd REALLY love to have is a triple, grande, 4-pump sugar free vanilla, stirred caramel macchiatto!!!!! That'd get rid of my headache! LOL! I'll refrain, however. Giving up the coffee was a hard one for me, my friends. Especially being here in Seattle where there's a "coffee temple" <a.k.a. Starbucks> on every corner, in every mall, in the grocery stores, in the bookstores, at the gas station, in the lobby of my doctor's hospital!! It's a great test of will power, I have to tell you. lindata 1 Posted November 6, 2007 Andie, are you not allowed to have coffee?
Skinny_Jill 36 Posted November 6, 2007 Thanks for reminding me how important the pre-op diet is for the success of my surgery. I am on a low carb diet but the week before I am going to do Protein Drinks for Breakfast and lunch and a light dinner at night. I need to change my life now. The band can only do so much and the rest is up to me. If I want this bad enough then I need to start right now.
Banded4Life 0 Posted November 6, 2007 I got the headache to when I started low carb...I think it was a combo of no carbs and no cafferine. That's what I will miss most...my diet pop...but you know what they say about carbonated drinks=pain! Don't want that!
foxychick04 0 Posted November 6, 2007 Hello - just popped in from the October thread to say good luck to everyone. I've been banded since 8th October and I get my first fill on 9th November. I remember all the stress and worry I felt before my op and just wanted say it does get better, the pain does go, the gas gets less and in a month you'll be looking forward to your fill. My advice to everyone after the op is walk as much as you can to help with the gas, make sure you get enough fluids and remember that after the op is about healing and not losing weight. Good Luck!
