Hello, I am scheduled for surgery on November 8th.

Welcome, dawndannae! What, if anything, are you doing for pre-op diet?

I just went yesterday for my first consulation and will be going back for my visit with Dr Neal on Oct 31st. As far as I know, continue to eat normal without having the "Last Supper" the night before surgery.

I had my doctor's consult last Friday and have a surgery date of 11/06/07. That is just two weeks from tomorrow!! I'm on my pre-op diet and am doing fine with unjury Protein powder twice a day with one regular small meal. I also have EAS Myoplex Lite with 25 grams of Protein. It is ready made and tastes ok but it is curdled almost. It was handy for work but I'm not sure I can get a second one down. It isn't even close to the due date so maybe it is supposed to be that way. Yuck.

Anyway...I'm going to be among the Nov Banded. :)

I had my consult last Friday, too! I started my diet Saturday but didn't get to the grocery store until my husband went yesterday. So far today, my first day at work, I've had two Slimfast low-carb shakes, one of those yogurt smoothies in a bottle and a string cheese. I'm on a low-carb diet, not liquid, but those foods are convenient for bringing to work. I'll probably have some tuna when I get home.

Congratulations on getting a surgery date. Be sure to add it to our calendar in this forum!

Hi Nov Bandsters: I have been off-line for about 2 wks, have had a complication that I am dealing with. During my annual female exam, blood was found in my UA. My mom died of kidney cancer and my dad currently has bladder cancer so I have been referred to a Urologist for further tests. The consult isn't until Friday and my band surgery is scheduled for Nov 6 so I don't know if I will have to postpone or what will be in store. I will find out on Friday. It has been a huge emotional roller coaster, I had considered putting off the consult but good thinking got the better of me and I will do it before so I don't risk having further complications. I think my head is back in the game and I will just keep a positive focus on my band until I know something different. Onward...

Yesterday I had a two hour training meeting. It basically tought me all the in and outs of the whole procedure. While I was there the nurse suggested that I do start a high protien diet now before my surgery. I also found out that the day before, Halloween day, I can only have liquids. I got a list of everything I will need before and after the surgery so looks like I will be doing some shopping this weekend. Tomorrow I am having a surgery for a female problem and then next week is the lap band. sheesh!!!!

Hi ndmom -

Please let us know how things go on Friday. I have been in a similar situation and can relate to feeling like you are on a roller coaster. It's good that you went for your annual exam - we all need to take care of ourselves and still go to those appointments that aren't part of pre-lapband testing. Keep positive thoughts and continue to get things ready for your lapband surgery. You are on the path to better health!

My surgery is 2 weeks from tomorrow. I don't have to start the liquid diet until this Sunday, but I'm going full liquid tomorrow. I'm so excited that I can't eat, which is a first in my life!! I have a metabolic test and my psych eval. on Friday, and meet with my surgeon on 11/1 for the final time before surgery to get all the last minute stuff. I've had a lot of surgeries, but I've never been so excited as I am about this one!! For the first time in years, I feel good about me :clap2:

Hi Cota129,

My surgery is scheduled on Nov. 7th also. I am getting pretty nervous but excited as well. No liquid diet before but I have not received pre-surgery instructions. I have some questions about what size pills I can take but I don't meet with the surgeon again until the day before my surgery. Good luck to you; I am sure we will do great! It has been great reading everyone's comments.

To those of you who are trying to quit smoking, hang in there it can be done, I never thought I could do it either. I smoked a packa day for nearly 20 years and I was able to quit without help from patch or perscription.

My surgeon requires everyone 2 quit smoking 3 months prior 2 surgery and they test 4 it before and if you have nicotene then they won't do the surgery. They say it is because smoking is horrible on the stomach. It causes all sorts of gastric problems.

After reading all of the posts in this thread, I am happy to be a part of this group there are certainly caring and compassionate people here. We all need that support while we heal from this surgery.

I agree that it doesn;t matter if self-pay or insurance, this is still a huge investment both physically and mentally. This is a tool....the LAPBAND...it is not the cure!! If you think it is, you might be disappointed. I say this because if you continue to eat what you have before surgery, and have no excersize in your life then you will not succeed in this lapband process. I have learned that over all of these months of classes and support groups. Talking to people who have it had it done with success and meeting those who have it had done and gone back to their original size. Yeap that is right....they ate their way through the restriction....and ballooned right back to the pre surgery size.

Our minds still have the cravings and still have the reasons as why we ate the way we did before they place our bands, so we must address these reasons in order for the band 2 work for us.

It is not easy, it is not always going to be pretty, there is going to be pain and probably a setback or 2 or 3 even. But with determination that I know we have, we can all make this tool work for us.

We have to love ourselves. Yes LOVE ourselves, even our fat selves. If you can learn to love yourself, then you won't need food to be your comforter any longer. You will have each other and yourself to give comfort to you.

Get a hobby, something that you can do when you feel that urge to be bad, like eating the KFC or whatever it might be. Take yourself out of the situation.

I am being banded on Nov 9th and my family is freakingout about Thanksgiving. I will be on full liquids then. They want to cancel the holiday. I do not want to, I still want to get together with my family and share the love of each other. I will be fine, they don't seem to understand that I won't be hungry. That I will be healing and may not want food...LOL

My birthday is October 31st Halloween, and I am ready for it, can't wait 2 see my grandsons trick or treating!!

I am so glad that I have found you guys. Hang in their Bandsters.......The waiting is always the hardest part:)

Kristin

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.
