180 Days Weight Loss Trial & Protein Shake Question

Recommended Posts

I registered years ago but never had insurance that would cover the surgery. My husband's company switched to BCBS of Alabama recently and now I have 50% coverage. I already went to the seminar and met with the surgeon.

Today is the first day of my 6 month physician supervised weight loss trial. I went to a new doctor and she is wonderful.

I am doing a high Protein, low carb diet. Is anyone else doing a 6 month weight loss trial? How is it going? How much weight have you lost?

My doctor recommended a Protein shake and a fruit for Breakfast. The shake needs 20 to 30 grams of Protein. Any suggestions?

I have BCBS of Michigan. I'm in the 3 month nutritional visit. I'm vegetarian and I love Premier Protein. I've lost 20lbs and I have PCOS.

A lot of insurance plans require the 6 month diet - especially bcbs. Mine went really well - i lost 40 lbs.

Just me, but I don't think premier is the best Protein option. It's a whey concentrate blend, and your body will process 100% whey isolate the best, especially after surgery. Look at Syntrax nectar, powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury, or inspire brands (all purchased online). All three have some really good flavors and they blend really well.

I love the Premier chocolate shake. I lost 7 lbs at my two week check in. I feel like I am doing well and adjusting to my food plan. My dr wants me to lose at least 27 lbs in the six months. I would love to lose more.

I have Anthem & I have to do a six month meeting with a dietician and NP but they don't call it a weight loss goal. Had my second meeting last week and it seems to be more of a pep talk/review session. I'm so glad to have found this app and all the suggestions you all provide. Thanks!

I have BCBS of Alabama as well and live in Florida. I am in my 4th month of my 6 month supervised diet.

I have tried and like the Premier shakes, I also like the Adkins brand ones. I ordered the sample starter pack from unjury website but I haven't tried them yet. They just came yesterday but they were highly recommended by the dietitian I met with last Monday.

These are some good suggestions, I'll need to try some alternative shake options for after surgery.

I didn't know they had samples on their website. Thanks for the tip.

Where are you having your surgery done? I live in PNS but am having it done by SAMPA in Mobile because of the out of pocket costs savings.

Last question. Does BCBS of AL require dietician meetings?

My insurance didn't require a dietician, but the surgeon required 2 classes. It was all about the pre op diet, post op diet and Vitamins that are required. My 2nd class isn't until Dec 20.

We are submitting to my insurance in late Jan/early Feb. My local hospital is in network for me thank goodness. I work with 3 people who have the same surgery in the last 2 years, all of them have done really well.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
