Update on OCt sleevers.....

Recommended Posts

Sleeved on 10/27 and was put on purée stage exactly on week later this Thursday. I am not handling it week to be honest, not because I can't tolerate the food but because I think I am eating too much and making bad choices. I've stalled since starting purées... lost 18lbs since pre op and 12.5lbs since surgery date (9 days ago). I'm going to resume full liquids tomorrow to make sure I'm disciplined enough for purees.

I was sleeved 10/21 and I'm a little discouraged because the scale hasn't moved in a whole week! I lost 10 pounds since surgery but I don't know why it is still sitting at the same number! It's only been 2 weeks how could I stop losing after my first week? I'm getting 60 g of Protein in daily, 64 oz Fluid. I'm on full liquid and about to transition to purée. I haven't eaten anything with sugar... what's the deal??

Surgery date 10/21/16

I'm two weeks post op. Have no trouble with liquids or Protein drinks. I stated eating lots of broth from homemade Soups and "caldos". I stated nibbling on carrots and potatoes to see if I could Handel them. I pureed one Soup too and it went well. Now I'm scared that I'm overconfident and not following orders. I eat a poached egg and 2 tablespoons of refried Beans for Breakfast. I don't know how awful this is, I been craving greens and nibble on a tiny spinach and Tomato salad. Haven't has pain or felt too full. I'm starting to question my resolve and will power.

Surgery 10/18 and started puree this Thursday and eating is freaking me out. I've tried yogurt, cottage cheese, lentil Soup and Saturday I tried premade pouch tuna salad. I assumed the nausea I was experiencing was from my cancer meds but maybe it's from the surgery too.

Today was the first time I didn't lose over night. Trying not to freak out. I finally found a way to get all the Protein in..... flavorless GENEPRO in sugar free pudding (1tblsp = 30g)

Still in muscular pain from the surgery and exercise is still difficult but I'm building up every day.

I do see the loss in clothes. Mostly shirts as my abdomen is still kind is swollen.

I did make the ricotta bake but found myself eating too much.

Anyone else having trouble determining full.... at first with liquids I figured it out right away. Now I can't really tell which scares me.

How many times are people eating a day ? Today I've had 1 egg scrambled , yogurt for lunch and having a bowl of homemade Soup for my tea. I have also had 2 small spoonfuls of cottage cheese. I've not lost any weight for 2 weeks and wondering if I'm doing something wrong, am I eating enough ?

I'm struggling with hating the feel of my stomach being full. It's emotionally hard. I eat 2 ozs and I feel like it's right up to my esophagus. For the next 3 hours anything I drink feels like it's just sliding around my food Torpedo as I like to call it. I hate the feeling so much and I'm becoming depressed. LIke, it's one thing to deal with all of these side effects and healing, but it's another to always be in discomfort after eating and I fear I will never feel OK again. I cried for almost 24 hours straight from Friday to Saturday because I feel like my life is suppose to get better, not worse. I can't resume my normal life yet, eating is so hard and I feel like maybe I ruined my entire life with this. I'm sure these feelings will pass but the longer it takes for me to feel like a normal human being the more depressed I feel. like reall depression.

I can handle the struggles of a modified diet, but the fact that the act of eating is so difficult and takes up my entire day and even then I'm not getting everything in that I need? I'm failing both emotionally and Protein wise. I feel like I now just live to eat and drink and be uncomfortable. I'm getting for reals depressed. I have a call into my surgeon asking about the issues of my sleeve discomfort but I'm sure they will just say this is normal.

Hopefully they can help you! I had RNY Oct 3rd and don't have issues with 2oz of food. But depending on what it is, I find I get full quicker. Chew chew chew and small bites helps. Maybe they have a therapist that can help too? This stage doesn't last forever and you should be able to eat comfortably in the future.

I was sleeved on 10/27, I still hurt but am ok. I have to set timers all day to know what I need to be doing.

ex...

8-8:30am drink/eat nothing

8:30-9am eat

9-9:30am drink/eat nothing

9:30-10:30 drink

I repeat that all day long to get in my 6 meals.

I am down 22 pounds in 11 days and am happy with that. I am so nervous it won't work or I will do something wrong and mess it up.

I have been swallowing pills since day 2, nothing bigger than a plain M&M. They go down fine. I am using Vitamin Patches and I hope they are working!

What are you guys eating if you are on full clears? I am dying for a change.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
