I'm Cajun and used to be able to eat food so spicy that other Cajuns couldn't tolerate it. Since the band, I can't tolerate it at all anymore! I was sad at first, but then came to appreciate other flavors.

I also never had heartburn a day in my life. A little word to the wise, get some generic "acid reducer." I got mine at Dollar General and now, if I wake up with heartburn, I just pop one and it's done.

I can eat food that is HOT HOT HOT!! Maybe it will come with time?

Yes, ma'am. The acid reflux thing didn't start right away for me.

I live in New Mexico and spicy is the norm here. I took it very cautious at first, only trying little bits but never had a problem. I was surprised because I had heartburn often before my band but haven't had it at all since. I am sure its different for everyone though.

I, too, live in New Mexico and havent had a hard time with spicy food or chile. Thank goodness!! I was worried I would! Cant live without my chile! :huh2:

Its fickle but at times I have discomfort with spicy foods - they just give me heartburn. Wine burns too, I need to line my stomach with something to eat before I have a glass of wine.

it must be the increased contact with the upper part of your stomach and esophagus (as the food sits there for a while) that is the cause.

Oh man I would die, I was even putting Tapatio in my broth 2 days after surgery, haha.

Totally the opposite for me, I have started enjoying spicier foods more after surgery! I think it is because my bites are so small that there is not much flavor in each bite so I like foods with more potent flavor. Before surgery I would take like 1/4cup bites and now I take pencil eraser size bites.

I am with you, before I would just tolerate spicy and now I crave it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
