Hello from Chicago, go Cubs... I am sitting here at work and thinking of my surgery coming up on Nov. 23rd. One of my biggest worries which always drives me to eat (i call it my liquor), is finances. So not having much vacay time left. How long did some of you had to take off of work? I have a desk job, I just have to lift my arm to the mouse. So easy job, haven't told everyone about the surgery. Just was completely honest with my boss, which he is being very supportive. But i worry about how long. So if you all don't mind tell me how long you stayed home, will give me more of an idea of what to tell people. I work in an office of 8, so we all know each other business. I am not ashamed of what I am doing, but I don't want any opinions. Happy Monday All...

I work at home but needed 3 weeks after sleeve due to fatigue, nausea and dizziness caused by BP meds. Thank goodness I had short term disability. After BP meds were discontinued and I was eating a soft diet, things were good.

Everyone I spoke with said two weeks but as usual I didn't listen and I took 3 weeks off. Today is my first day back and I am so happy I took that extra week. The large incision still hurt at week 3, I still had nausea and I was soooo tired.

I'm 5 weeks out and honestly I still don't feel ready to be back. Granted, I had a second smaller surgery last week but tons of fatigue and dizziness/nausea.

I took two weeks off but was still exhausted when I went back after two weeks. I had to go home the first couple of days mid-afternoon. I probably should have taken three weeks. I have a desk job.

I took 5 days off and I'm an Investigator for the State. I felt fine. Everyone is different. I never felt dizzy. My surgery weight was 303 if that has anything to do with it.

My surgery was on 09/19. I took the day of surgery off and the rest of that week I worked from home, which I slept on and off.

I went back to work that Monday after and haven't needed to take off of work since. I also have a desk job...

I was off 2 days, worked from home the next week and back at the office on day 11. I also have a desk job and I had a bit of a tough time with keeping up with my Water intake and walking frequently once I was back in the office. I got past that and by the next week, everything was smooth sailing.

My surgeon suggests 4 weeks. My boss is fine with that. I'm a home health nurse, so it's a lot of driving and sitting. Nowhere near the intensity of a staff nurse!

My surgeon signed me off for 4 weeks. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks since surgery. I went to work today and was soooo exhausted. I haven't been taking naps or anything during the day when I was off and walked a lot to get my stamina back. I also have a desk job but everyone is different.

I am taking off a total of six weeks. My surgery was September 28 and I go back to work November 14. We have a short-term disability benefit that pays at 100%. I am feeling better now, but as soon as I go back to work, everything will become about work and not about my recovery and getting my Protein and fluids in. That is the biggest reason that my doctor and I made the decision for me to take this time. Also my fatigue is so hit or miss, and that would make going back to work right now pretty difficult.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
