Peanut Butter before solid stage?

Recommended Posts

Hi all -- I was banded on August 29 - a week later (and 10 lbs less!) I'm so hungry I could eat my shoes. On past diets, I've been able to get away with a tablespoon of Peanut Butter - hits the spot without triggering overeating -- but I'm not sure that it would count as a "soft" food? Actually, I'm technically support to be on liquid Protein for another 2 weeks, but frankly, I'm hungry enough and feel sufficiently recovered that if PB falls under the mushie stage and people haven't had problems with it, then I'm willing to chance it!

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Danielle

Aloha Ericsmom, I too was banded on Aug 29, and have lost 10 lbs. I don't know if Peanut Butter is considered a mushie or not, but I would think it is, as long as you don't swallow it a whole teaspoon at a time. But i would check with your MD first. Good Luck on your journey

Can you mix it with something to give it a softer consistency? It really doesn't matter what because this is not the period of time you worry about calories...this is your healing phase. If you can get it a little looser I think it would be fine. Peanut Butter is a little difficult to swallow normally, so I'd think it might give you a problem just after surgery...but who knows.

Kacee,,,that makes sense -- I had a PB milkshake a few days ago, and that seemed to go down fine. The problem is, it tasted too good, so I had more than I should! I know this is healing phase, but I can't help wanting to kickstart the weight loss (reasonably, of course!) while I'm still in the enthusiastic phase! 6 weeks seems to be the limit to my enthusiasm, and 3 months is the limit to any diet I've been on -- so the fills will be quite timely!

Kaohinani, aloha! That's great to know that you had the surgery on the same day!! Let's stay in touch...I will look for your posts and progress. I"m a bit of a lurker on this board, but will try to be more active.

Last night, I had an awful time with digestion -- the rumblings from my intestines were so loud that my husband could hear them from his side of the bed! I think I breathe in too much air, even when I'm "drinking" my food. Eating slowly will be a challenge (although a welcome one, in the long run)

Oh the lovely noises your body is going to make! I would listen to my rumblings (you could hear them across the room!) and laugh! Thank goodness that settled down in about a month. I do growl when I need to put something in my stomach now, but it can only be felt by me and it doesn't resound across the room anymore!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
