HRHMKB 76 Posted October 24, 2016 For those of you who have had the surgery, how quickly was a change in clothing necessary size-wise? I'm just thinking ahead about what I am going to need given the seasons changing and such. Winter coat, for example? I'm not jumping the gun, but am being realistic. I have my surgery in a month and a half and I live where it gets cold in winter. Obviously I know that it varies by person, but any experiences are helpful. Thanks! OutsideMatchInside 10,166 Posted October 24, 2016 It is hard to answer because everyone is different, clothes fit differently depending on your build, and it depends on you start size. I have always like my clothes fitted, so I started swapping clothes out soon and often. I will not wear something that is too large. My suggestion is to only shop when you need a size, and plan on wearing it immediately. Do not shop for the future. You can skip sizes or move through a size very quickly. Just shop on demand. sc101071 398 Posted October 24, 2016 Wait to buy any winter clothing. You'll likely begin to go down sizes soon, but you can always buy at the time for the right fit that will last.
Icantbelieveit 955 Posted October 24, 2016 Depends depends depends. Depends on what size you are when you start. Depends how fast you lose. Depends on your shape. Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App
BlueMoon~T 276 Posted October 24, 2016 It is hard to say. I would say buy leggings and things with some stretch that you can wear while your losing. I'm almost a year out and I started at a size 24 and now I'm wearing a 5/6. The lower your weight goes the faster you'll see your size change. If that makes sense. rolosmom7 740 Posted October 24, 2016 I started at a 20, have lost 43 pounds, and am still a 20. So I think it's really individual.
Mindy78 372 Posted October 24, 2016 I started at a 24 at 292 sw on Oct 3rd was 251at a 20-22 so not a big change. Now 239 and fit into an 18w yesterday Sent from my 5054N using the BariatricPal App
HRHMKB 76 Posted October 24, 2016 Thanks, all. I know it really depends on body size. I have wide hips now and will regardless of weight loss. I'm just about 300 lbs and wear an 18/20 bottoms and a 16 tops. Definite PEAR shape. I tend to lose size faster than pounds, so I'm thinking ahead.
KristenLe 5,979 Posted October 24, 2016 @@HRHMKB I am in a 24, 26/28, 3X, some 22's (pants) - and was 289 when I started this journey. You're in smaller sizes than your weight would suggest already - so you may not lose as many sizes as some others. I wouldn't by anything until you need it - then shop at consignment shops, thrift stores ( I got a really nice pair of 7even jeans at Salvation Army), eBay, or ThredUp until you're more settled in a size. HRHMKB 76 Posted October 24, 2016 Thanks. Yes, the size thing is strange, but true. I've been told I "carry it well," But numbers don't lie.
rolosmom7 740 Posted October 24, 2016 Thanks. Yes, the size thing is strange, but true. I've been told I "carry it well," But numbers don't lie.I've also been told that (think it's how tall I am maybe). Still so odd to be the same size with 43 pounds gone. I didn't set goals so doesn't upset me. Perplexes me more than anything.
Icantbelieveit 955 Posted October 24, 2016 Were you a tight 20? Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App
rolosmom7 740 Posted October 24, 2016 Were you a tight 20? Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App Not really - I'm judging off of Old Navy denim sizes (same cut) because women's clothes are so off in sizing. Comparing like to like, I'm in the same size 20 jeans - I could wear them comfortably out of the dryer before, and while they're a bit looser I can't get on an old navy 18. Icantbelieveit 955 Posted October 24, 2016 (edited) It is weird. Last week I was trying a few different sizes of jeans that I have had and they are all so different shaped while being the same size. Even the same brand. Then I tried different sizes, can fit into Avenue size 26 jeans comfortable, but lane bryant jeans are an absolute no go in a 28. Then I tried a woman within jean and 30 is swimming on me. So I guess I will be living in one pair of jeans for 2 months lol. rolosmom7 740 Posted October 24, 2016 Haha I'm living in these for a while. I have a few 18s from when I was smaller last year, but. Who knows.
