I don't really have that many supporters my mom os not a fond of weight-loss surgery so she constantly says unpleasing things about it and my children know I have seven children my oldest is 16 and my youngest is seven there cool with it and my niece who is 24 my mom who knows haven't mentioned one word to me or asked me if there are things she can help me with or anything like that I think the deciding to have this surgery depends on u and what ur comfortable and secure with because if you need support in order to make this surgery OK then a lot of people wouldn't be getting it I think it comes down to who you are as a person.

My family were not thrilled. I think their concerns are pretty reasonable. We watched my sister cheat and fail at wls just two years ago. My husband always takes the "whatever you need to be happy" approach. But, as surgery got closer he struggled to be supportive because of the significant inconvenience to him and our household. I work for my mother who was not for the idea. I invited her to the seminar and kept her in the loop as I made arrangements and positive changes to ensure my success. But she kept trying to talk me out of it up to a few days before. I've been recovering at her home since discharge 10/19 (sleeve 10/18). She's been amazingly supportive seeing how well I am doing. This isn't what others would choose for me or themselves, but I set the tone of what I expect from them. I am being open and honest with all my people about having wls. I feel it will keep me more accountable to succeeding. If I am successful there is nothing to be unsupportive of. Good luck!

I don't think I will mention anything about my surgery to anyone to the day before because negative words are difficult to handle when you are already in such fragile state. so I just keep my kids in the loop and do what I have to do to make this a success story.

My husband and I only talked to each other and I turned to BP for support. I do not want or need approval or support from others. It kept me from others' opinions and negativity. Sweet quiet!

You know sometime people feels that when we lose the weight they are losing a part of us they are so used to us being overweight and most of the time uncomfortable in our own skin, they are afraid of change some like us this way and don't want us to lose the weight for one reason or another. But now that we are taking charge of our lives to get healthy to feel really really good about ourselves maybe for some of us for the first time for a long time they can not handle it. For me my family the one I told is good with and support. But even it they were not it would not have changed my mine I have to live in this body not them and I am so sick and tired of this Yo yo roller coaster I'm on I want to get off this ride and feel good and beautiful again for me . And it friends and family can't understand that shame on them. I have got to do this for me! For the first time I'm going to be fist in my life and it going to be about me and what I want and this is it! I think we all deserve this if this is what we want. So whoever in not on board this train is leaving without you!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
