I had VSG surgery 10/19, so I'm 4 days out... I'm off of my Clear liquids phase, and moving onto full liquids. They say I can have low-fat cream Soups? What all does that include? Other than the cream of _________ (of which I'm not the biggest fan)? Can I have a homemade Tomato basil Soup finely puréed? HELP!

I don't want to only live off of Protein Shakes for 2-3 weeks!

Yes the homemade Soup is fine puréed ... I would very slowly introduce it because the Tomato may or may not give you acid. So here's what I did.... make sure you have zero fluids 30 mins prior. Then pour your 1/4 cup of soup and grab your baby spoon... and set a timer on your phone for 20 mins. And slowly sip your soup. If you can't finish then that's ok. Stop when u feel pressure under your breast bone it means ur full. Then get up and set another timer for 30 mins... remember no fluids ...and take some gas x strips if You feel the need. ...and walk it off.. get some good burps out...You don't have to walk the entire time but stay active.

Go check out Trader Joe's, they have a good line of cream Soups that gives you some variety.

I went to Safeway and ladled out the broth from their chunky chicken noodle Soup. Five bucks for a quart. I put it in a coffee travel mug and just looked like your average everyday coffee freak. I personally wouldn't do cream of whatever Soups simply because I didn't want to go the direction of something that I didn't want in my diet.

Any Soup with chunks strained out is acceptable. My favorite is Progresso Light chicken & cheese Enchilada soup. I strain it leaving me about a cup of creamy broth. Tastes just like eating a blended enchilada.

My nutritionist suggested the broth from wonton Soup of any Chinese place as well as the broth from French Onion soup. (She specifically mentioned La Madeleine as we have them here in New Orleans.)

I don't like either of those Soups in their "regular" form, so they weren't options for me, but they might be for you. For me, I have had strained Cream of chicken Soup (Campbell's 98% Fat Free) since Day 14. Now that I have all of these other options, I am about to retire it because it eats up too many of my daily carbs, but it was a life-saving option for me at Day 14!!

It depends on what is on your post-op program and what stage you are on. What stage are you? What are you allowed?

Miso Soup is one of my favorites. Can get a tub of Miso at Amazon (or an Asian grocery store), add a tablespoon to hot Water and sip away. Can add unflavored Protein Protein to get extra protein in there.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
