My nutritionist suggested the broth from wonton Soup of any Chinese place as well as the broth from French Onion soup. (She specifically mentioned La Madeleine as we have them here in New Orleans.)

I don't like either of those Soups in their "regular" form, so they weren't options for me, but they might be for you. For me, I have had strained Cream of chicken Soup (Campbell's 98% Fat Free) since Day 14. Now that I have all of these other options, I am about to retire it because it eats up too many of my daily carbs, but it was a life-saving option for me at Day 14!!

Hey! You're in NOLA! I'm in Baton Rouge!

Where'd you have your surgery?

Hi fellow Louisianan!

Dr. Tom Lavin from Surgical Specialists of Louisiana is my surgeon. My insurance had me have the surgery done in Slidell, but he operates more often at a hospital in Metairie.

Did you have yours done with a BR doc or a NOLA doc?

In addition to the many great ideas above I used to drink basic beef or chicken broth but add some milk for extra nutrition and Protein. Fast and easy and sometimes was easier on my sleeve because the flavour was mild.

I got the loaded potato Soup from Safeway and blended it and it's amazing. I don't use lowfat Soups because they don't keep me full and I'm no where close to hitting the calorie goals my surgeon gave me and he said it's totally fine

I had VSG surgery 10/19, so I'm 4 days out... I'm off of my Clear liquids phase, and moving onto full liquids. They say I can have low-fat cream Soups? What all does that include? Other than the cream of _________ (of which I'm not the biggest fan)? Can I have a homemade Tomato basil Soup finely puréed? HELP!

I don't want to only live off of Protein shakes for 2-3 weeks!

Just keep an eye on labels. Tomato Soup (Campbell's) is a favorite of mine pre-op. I just looked and it has 12 gms sugar and the 2nd ingredient is high fructose corn Syrup. Not a good option unfortunately. I am going to make some homemade broccoli cheddar soup (blended) when I'm able to have soups. That way you can control the ingredients. Some low fat soups have added sugars to make them taste better (same with other fat free foods). You're better off with the fat than the sugar.

Yes the homemade Soup is fine puréed ... I would very slowly introduce it because the Tomato may or may not give you acid. So here's what I did.... make sure you have zero fluids 30 mins prior. Then pour your 1/4 cup of soup and grab your baby spoon... and set a timer on your phone for 20 mins. And slowly sip your soup. If you can't finish then that's ok. Stop when u feel pressure under your breast bone it means ur full. Then get up and set another timer for 30 mins... remember no fluids ...and take some gas x strips if You feel the need. ...and walk it off.. get some good burps out...You don't have to walk the entire time but stay active.

On the full liquid stage - we don't need to stop drinking before having something like soup. It's only when we move on to purees.

If you're like me, yes...I have been drinking a lot of Protein Shakes for these four weeks since surgery. I've found it tough to get in my Protein with the little bit of food I could eat.

I have eaten Soups. Tomato basil was tough for me to get down until week four unless it was really watered down. It also has little or no protein and is higher on carbs than many soups. But it is delicious!

One of the best soups I learned from someone on here is wonton broth. It's a good way to get liquid and the Soup taste.

I have done a lot of green pea. Not split pea. It is a little tricky to find.

Wonton Soup broth was my savior during the liquid stage. I didn't have anything other than clear soup until the pureed stage, when I did get some La Madeleine Tomato basil soup and mixed with unflavored Protein Powder.

Don't forget you can mix some unflavored Protein powder into your Soup. It really helps you get your grams in and lets you rely less on sweet Protein shakes!

@ Are you doing a low-fat diet? I've been doing pretty much full-fat everything and I'm happy with my weight loss. I'd love for some vets to weigh in on this, I'm wondering how this will go in the future if I use regular cheese, etc in maintenance?

I know it's not a creamy Soup, but I've enjoyed miso quite a bit. I keep Edward & Sons brand on hand. Go for the low sodium kind. To make a creamy soup, I've found adding Greek yogurt and Smash (potato flakes if you're not in the UK,) to a good broth make for a satisfying soup. I'm not yet ready for my beloved potato leek or cream of broccoli soups!

Tomato Basil Bisque, strained. I love it. Just have to limit it, since the sugars are not super low.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
