5 days post op not sure if everything's right.

Recommended Posts

I'm 5 days post op. I was drinking 20oz of Protein day one walked 5 miles before out of hospital. Nurses were surprised how well I was ready to go. I've stayed liquid for the most part I've ate Soups and soft cheese for the first time. What I'm wounded is how do you know when your full and is the time frame between bites you should have. I almost feel like my stomachs fine and I didn't even have surgery I also had a bad hernia repair so kinda hurts to swallow Water and liquids but I'm not sure if its the surgery or the hernia repair. Any advice on how to know when your full.

You shouldn't be looking for "full" you should be looking for satisfied. But so soon after surgery, you really can't trust your stomach to give you proper signals. Your tissues and nerves are still too traumatized. That's why it's important to strictly weigh your portions and stick with that for the time being, instead of looking for physical signals that you've had enough. Good luck!

You should spend 30 minutes eating your 4oz. Careful not to rush your diet. If not cleared for soft foods, don't advance. You can really hurt yourself. Baritastic App helps with timing meals/drinking

4ozs of cheese in a serving or liquids? My plan allows 1-2ozs of puree but not until week 2. I had 8ozs of Protein shake in about 30 mins. That's not going to be filling though as it goes right thru you. Be careful not to eat too much or off plan.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
