I have been over weight most of my life. My sister and mother are both over weight. I am 30 years old and living in France. I have to pay the person doing it 700 and the person doing the anesthesia 150 kind of on the high side even thought he gets paid for doing it. I am looking for people who has lap band and can walk me thought everything. Like what to eat and do I take Multi Vitamins. And how much weigth you have lost and other things.:help:

I am also being banded on 9/25! Your story sounds soooo familiar to me! We are about the same age, I'm 33, and I've also battled this my whole life. Good luck to you!

My doctor doesn't do any pre-op diet. From reading this board it looks like it's about 50/50 on the docs that do and those that don't. I did alot of research before deciding to be banded. This site has helped alot. It seems like if you have the question someone on here has the answer! My approval went really really fast. Way faster than I expected! I went to a seminar my doctor held and it answered a lot of my questions. I can't wait to begin this new chapter of my life. There are so many inspiring stories on this board. Be sure to check out the thread with the Before and After pics... so inspiring!!

Congratulations on your decision--this surgery has given me my life back! My doc had me on a pre op diet for 2 weeks before surgery consisting of 3 SlimFast a day and all the sugar free Clear Liquids I wanted. The SlimFast really kept me from being hungry. It shrinks your liver so that there is less risk of nicking or bruising it during the surgery. I was on sugar free clear liquids ONLY for 10 days after surgery and that was the hardest thing I have ever done but necessary to give my stomach time to heal and the swelling to go down. Then mushies (potatoes, refried Beans, pudding, etc) for 2 weeks then small amts of regular food. Have a hard time with bread and dry meat sometimes getting stuck so I avoid it. You just have to experiment with foods to find the ones that will cause you problems with getting stuck. This surgery has been an answer to prayer--for the first time in my life the weight IS coming off and I KNOW that it will continue to do so and that I will NOT gain it back since I no longer have the desire as strongly to overeat. I do still find the desire to eat when not hungry at times but am getting better at that as well! I am excited for you!

Considering the pre-op thing, my doctor now has a rule that if someone gains weight between the time when they were approved and to their surgery he cancels the surgery. He also said that when he goes into surgery if it requires the person being cut open he stops there and doesn't do it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
