Tyani 117 Posted October 22, 2016 I talked to about 3 gastric bypass patients who drink ginger ale and said that there doctor said that's the only soda OK to have. Hmmm mines said all is a no no. My oldest brother from my father side, he and his wife both had the gastric bypass , way before I thought of having it and i they both eat sweets, drink sodas, like I thought you could dump? But if it's true that you can dump , why have the surgery? Continue on self destructing. Yani Their doctor not there forgive me Yani
Icantbelieveit 955 Posted October 22, 2016 Majority of bypass people actually dont dump. I dont. Wish I did. Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App
esskay77 785 Posted October 22, 2016 I would assume that it isn't a good idea to have any soda. It's the bubbles (carbonation) that is the problem and ginger ale is carbonated. It expands your stomach. Yes, it is possible to have sweets, soda, all kinds of bad things without dumping. But, it is not a good idea and will be the cause of weight gain, just like prior to surgery. You might dump but you might not. If you really want to lose weight and/or maintain then you don't have those things. And once you allow yourself some, it opens the door to doing it again and again. Trust me. (yes, my confession!) MaryCatherine 173 Posted October 22, 2016 The doctor says ginger ale is OK because it has no caffeine. I will drink diet ginger ale sometimes. Water is much better for me.

Sirmikael 59 Posted October 22, 2016 I've read that ginger ale is fine, as long as you let it go flat first. You don't want to drink it carbonated. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

shareeann 110 Posted October 22, 2016 This makes me mad why do people get the surgery, then go back to the old habits that made them fat. Grrr 2 ProudGrammy and BostonWLKC reacted to this
esskay77 785 Posted October 22, 2016 @@shareeann I can guarantee they don't want to return to that state. However, it is a food addiction and is not logical and is the hardest thing to recover from. 1 KRush88 reacted to this
