simpsongrad 85 Posted October 22, 2016 So I am almost to my surgery date, 10/25, but I am also starting to wonder if this is the right thing to do. I have lost weight before successfully (over 80 pounds three different times), but unfortunately it had always found me again. I am very self disciplined most times but when I go into maintenance mode, I slip. I love to cook, grew up on a farm with a mom who was an amazing cook who taught me well. . I don't want to put myself through this for nothing. How do you keep the weight off long term? It terrifies me to think of doing this for nothing. In 2014, I lost 88 pounds doing weight watchers and exercising like crazy. I would workout 4 hours a day and think nothing of it. But in doing so, I injured my Achilles' tendon and have had surgery this past spring, and have another one scheduled in December. I love working out, and want to do more. My doctor had said the best thing for me is to get my weight down to have not as much pressure on my tendon so that led me down this path of wls. I guess I am hoping for some reassurance from people who have done the whole yo yo dieting but have been successful with this in keeping it off. I understand this is just a tool, but I think I have also messed up my metabolism so bad with my yo yo dieting that I am more likely to regain it and that is exactly what I don't want to have happen. Thanks in advance. I don't post much but I really enjoy this board and appreciate the veterans for helping the newbies out. rachel_bypass 18 Posted October 22, 2016 Those were my exact thoughts to because I could lose the weight by watching what I eat and exercise but extrasizing put a horrible strain on your body and I'm not like most women when I exercise for some reason it give me muscles like a man now I don't mind being muscular but then it becomes a weird after a while so this was my whole motivation for this surgery because working out really does strain your body a lot I injured my collarbone twice tore tendons my surgery date is November 17. AuntyFabulous 18 Posted October 22, 2016 I'm also 10/25 and have the same concerns. I've tried lots of diets that work but that I can't maintain long term. There are tons of people on the boards that have been able to maintain their weight loss. I've know 4 people who have had wls. 3 have maintained wonderfully. (Over twelve years for one) and 1 who has regained. She is an emotional eater. I think it's important to really get in touch with your relationship with food. BtW, when I cook, I think I eat less. Is that weird? Best of luck on Tuesday! Sent from my XT1650 using the BariatricPal App

CassiNicole 7 Posted October 23, 2016 I'm also getting sleeved on 10/25. I'm having a lot of emotions, from scared to anxious and plain nervous. I have yo-yo dieted my entire life. I even had the lap band 5 years ago and that has been pure hell. So on Tuesday I'm having a band removal, hiatal hernia repair and the sleeve. I've read in these forums that these feelings are absolutely normal and it will pass and it will be the best decision ever. Good luck to yall on Tuesday! Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App Good luck and best wishes to you this week! I was revised from LapBand on the 18th. It hasn't been all smooth sailing because of the hernia, removal and other repair work done but it's getting better each day. Glad the band is gone forever Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

FullofHope83 2 Posted October 25, 2016 I'm scheduled for tomorrow morning and my nerves are horrible right now!! So many emotions about whether I can really do this and of my recovery will be extra hard.... Geez, I've had gallbladder removal and an emergency csection, you'd think I'd be mentally prepared for surgical recovery lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

simpsongrad 85 Posted December 12, 2016 @@teedsg Thanks so much for thinking of me! Yes - I am doing very well. I have lost over 25 pounds and almost 2 sizes since surgery and have had no trouble getting my fluids and Protein in. I feel like this was the best decision I have ever made for myself too. Hard to believe tomorrow will be six weeks since the big day too. How about you?

Hard to believe tomorrow will be six weeks since the big day too. How about you? That's great news! I may end up switching doctors and hospitals due to responsiveness. So, hopefully, I'll be able to get a surgery date in the next few weeks. I only have 1 more Nut visit to go. I have an appointment with the new doctor on Thursday.
