Hi all,

I've been going through the steps in my chosen bariatric program but I can't seem to "pass" CBT. I've been at the program for about 8 months and therapy weekly for about 4 months. I'm dying to get a surgery date before my insurance deductible resets in January. If I don't, I'm not sure I can afford it and all my work will be wasted. I don't know how to get over this frustration.

Thanks for listening.

Well, think of it this way...if you don't have your mental game in order, there's a good chance your effort will be wasted even IF you have surgery. There's a reason they put emphasis on the mental preparation on these surgeries...because long-term success is mostly mental. So if you're not ready, you're not ready. What has been the challenge with the CBT?

I don't know, unless it's what my therapist is reporting to the program. They wanted me to work on conquering my grazing, which I did, and to work on a meal plan and exercise. I'm trying to work on a meal plan, but have reached a point where I need more detailed help from the NUT. Can't see her until I "pass" therapy. Exercise is hatder because I'm recovering from knee surgery. But I am doing chair stuff, which should count for something.

I just want to start feeling better...

Hummm seems tgey should not be using a obstacle out of ur control against you..

Do you have access to a pool?? That can help loads

Also, your dr can rx physiotherapy or even hydrotherapy if available for your knee and body and ur Insurance can pay for it...therefore y get a good workout properly and it won't be expensive

If you don't know entirely why you aren't passing. I strongly suggest to be direct and ask...

In terms of meal planning, a great program you can use for your smartphone is called MyFitnessPal. It'll let you enter every single thing you are eating each day, tell you what the calories and macro breakdown are (protein/carbs/fats) and let you really get targeted in your diet. If you were to come in with something like that and demonstrate that you've been diligent about sticking to a program, and tracking your diet, that might satisfy their desire to see you taking control over your diet.

If they've given you an idea of what your calorie goal should be every day, then pre-program your meals into MFP and see where you end up with calories. Tailor your meal plan to hit your calorie target.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
