I'd just get them all scheduled and spread them out if you want.

From what I was told, blood work will be drawn 2 weeks before surgery.

Get your classes done first, after the classes the certificate you get us good for a year, then you can schedule all the other things. The classes usually give you a format of what needs to be done and when.

This is how it worked out for me:

Month 1 - Meet with surgeon; Meet with Pulmonary/setup sleep lab study

Month 2 - Met with cardio to set up Stress Test; Meet with nutrionist; sleep Study; Meet with psychiatrist (some require 2 visits; mine was only one)

Month 3 - Meet with Surgeon's PA

Month 4 - Meet with Surgeon's PA; Received CPAP Machine

Month 5 - Meet with Nutrionist; Do Stress test and follow-up with cardiologist

Month 6 - Follow-up with Pulmonary on CPAP usage; Pre-procedure blood draw; Meeting with Surgeon's PA

If that gives you some idea.

I met with my surgeon and about a week later did the blood work. Then had my first nutrition class.

My cartiologist and pulmonary were scheduled 2 days apart. My cartiologist gave me the okay and faxed the papers to the surgeon my pulmonary doctor referred me for a sleep study.

I completed my 2 required support groups already.

So waiting for the sleep appointment and the psychologist appointment. Then just my remaining 5 months of nutritionists visits. I wanted everything out of the way early.

I'm doing my 6 month doctor supervised diet now with my primary care doctor and I'm going to do a bariatric nutrition class as soon as they schedule me because my insurance doesn't cover it and it is only $50.00.

I'm scheduling my psych, endoscopy and gall bladder ultrasounds for January 2017 so it will go towards my deductible and out of pocket. Something you may want to consider if you are using insurance.

January is month 6 for me also, so we can submit everything for approval in February.

I went home after my consultation and set up my appointments as soon as I could. But I only had to do the surgery clearance from my primary doctor, blood work, psych eval, and upper GI so what what worked for me may need to be spread out more for you. Best wishes and good luck!

Hello, I am eagerly counting down the 6 months of weight loss checks to finally get my gift of a new life. Presently I am in my 3 month of 6 doctors visits. I have started this journey the last of August. I have already met with my wonderful surgeon, Dr. Sudan ( Duke medical center). Had lots of blood test ( various components of Vitamins and minerals.), EKG, Chest X-ray, Tetanus booster, Flu shot, Endoscopy/ colonoscopy, met with the psychologist, and the Nutritionist.

Gee, I am so excited, want to get all the information I can. I am a newbie, and any help you can give me, I would love to read. Presently I think I will be doing the Gastric By-pass (R-Y). I am trying a lot of Vitamins , Proteins that my nutritionist suggested in order to find the ones I like best.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
